As Congress debates an effort to change how the military investigates sexual assaults, U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) on Tuesday asked for scrutiny of ROTC programs.
Speaking on the Senate floor in support of a bill that would remove the prosecution of major crimes from the military chain of command, the Baldwin said campus ROTC programs should be included in conversations about sexual assault.
"Just like we must ensure that our new officers from the service academies meet our highest standards, we must do the same of those commissioned in ROTC programs across America," Baldwin said.
Baldwin filed an amendment to the bill calling for a study of conducting an assessment of sexual violence in ROTC programs that would gather information from universities, law enforcement agencies and ROTC programs on incidents and allegations of sexual violence by cadets.
