Jury orders Samsung to pay Apple $290 million

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) A Silicon Valley jury on Thursday ordered Samsung Electronics to pay Apple $290 million for copying vital iPhone and iPad features.
The verdict covers 13 older Samsung devices that a previous jury found were among 26 Samsung products that infringed Apple patents.
The previous jury awarded Apple $1.05 billion. But U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh ordered the new trial and tossed out $450 million of the damages after concluding the previous jury miscalculated the amount Samsung owed.
Samsung appealed that verdict and is expected to appeal the latest verdict.

(35,729 posts)Samsung is one of the creepiest corporations around. I know from personal experience when I tried to resolve an issue with them over a dishwasher.
They set up their communications department so that there's no way you can get a resolution. Their response is effectively "so sue me."
Sue them? I did. And they sent a lawyer down to wait five hours for our case to be heard at small claims so they wouldn't have to pay me $360.
This is the kind of company they are.
I will never, ever buy another Samsung product. They are unethical and I am delighted to hear they have to fork over this kind of money to Apple.

(7,670 posts)many of them are obvious design choices that anyone would make, or obvious or preexisting features of things like touch screens.
Hell, I saw an iPad depicted on Star Trek: TNG, in fucking 1988. Don't tell me its design wasn't obvious from the get go.
