Alec Baldwin's MSNBC Show Ending

Source: Huffington Post

Alec Baldwin's MSNBC show "Up Late" is ending.

The New York Post reported Tuesday that the host has been fired. A spokesman for Baldwin raised objections to the word "fired," but told the Post, “The show is not coming back. He had questions on whether he wanted to continue.”

MSNBC and Matthew Hiltzik, Baldwin's personal spokesperson, also confirmed to The Huffington Post, “We are jointly confirming that UP LATE will not continue on MSNBC.” MSNBC added, “This is a mutual parting and we wish Alec all the best.”

A spokesperson for MSNBC added, "Every episode of ‘Up Late’ has beaten CNN and the show has increased msnbc’s audience in the time slot. Alec has been dedicated to developing “Up Late” and spent hours each week in production. He’s got great ideas and has a collaborative relationship with the show staff."

That sucks. Alec's show was the only MSNBC show I never missed.

And yet Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, and all the rest of the Fox News hate mongers continue to work.

Back to Prison at ten on Fridays.

-snip-

UPDATE:
Contrary to the Page Six rumor, Variety reports that Baldwin hasn’t been fired but that his show ended as part of a “mutual” split:

Alec Baldwin and MSNBC have agreed to part ways on his short-lived interview show following the controversy the erupted over the actor’s use of an anti-gay slur in an encounter with a photographer.

Sources close to the situation insist that Baldwin was not been fired from the NBCU news cabler, but that the sides “mutually” agreed to end the show in light of the dust-up.

UPDATE II: Baldwin’s rep Matthew Hiltzik and MSNBC jointly confirmed the news via statement: “We are jointly confirming that UP LATE will not continue on MSNBC.”

MSNBC adds: “This is a mutual parting and we wish Alec all the best.”

I couldn't stand the rest that I did watch for a while then went elsewhere.

It was outstanding! especially compared to the others he did.

Thank god on some other planet his program only lasted a short time.

My all time favorite film.
When I tuned in, it took me a while to realize who the two guests were. Gary Lockwood now does not at all look like the Gary Lockwood then. In fact, I thought he had passed.

Keir Dullea without the beard is still recognizable.

Anyway, found out some cool stuff about the best movie evah !

Jack Parr or Dick Cavett? And then you also had Tom Snyder .. all offering in-depth discussion. And what has replaced them all .. nothing but self promoting celebrity guests who either have a new album, a new book, or a new movie coming out. Not even Stewart can get around that farce. Sickening .. I was hoping Baldwin's show would have rekindled that genre' but I guess he blew it.

To make amends with Phil Donahue and give him Alec Baldwin's show and time slot. He has much more experience interviewing people and they could have viewers call in to ask questions or tweet and e-mail questions. Plus MSNBC will not have to worry about Phil going around calling the paparazzi homophobic slurs.

I watched a couple episodes and he has great interviewing skills. The time slot sucked. Who goes up against Real Time? Who does that and expects to prosper?

I doubt we've seen the last of him, because it would be foolish to waste that talent and wit.

Before you flame me for supporting a gay slur, let me say, I think it was more of an ageism thing with him.
I don't think he's homophobic and wish he would've just apologized for his words rather than add BS to the insult.
He's quick tempered.
