Christie leads possible 2016 GOP contenders in CNN/ORC poll

Source: CNN

Washington (CNN) – A new national poll indicates, that for the first time, there may be an early frontrunner in the race for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

And according to a CNN/ORC International survey, if Hillary Clinton decides against making another bid for the White House, Vice President Joe Biden would be the initial favorite to capture the Democratic nomination.

The poll, released Friday morning, indicates that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, fresh off his Garden State re-election landslide victory and widespread national media attention, jumped to the top of the pack of potential contenders for the GOP nomination.

Twenty-four percent of Republicans and independents who lean towards the GOP questioned in the survey say they'd be likely to support Christie for the Republican nomination, up seven percentage points from a CNN poll in early September. Back then, Christie and Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, the House Budget chairman and the 2012 Republican vice presidential nominee, were virtually tied at the top of the GOP list, with Christie at 17% and Ryan at 16%.

The best way to do that is by picking up seats in '14. Intensify their civil war and Christie gets knocked out by the angry base.

Sixty-three percent of Democrats and independents who lean towards the Democratic Party say the former secretary of state, who also served as senator from New York and first lady, would be their choice for the party's nomination, with Biden a distant second at 12%. Freshman Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, a favorite of many progressives, stands at 7%, with New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo at 5% and two-term Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, another possible candidate, at 2%.

Name recognition matters most, at this stage, as the essay indicates.

The Tea Party will walk out, splitting the Republican Party two months before election day.

This should be tons of fun!

they ever nominated a pro-choice Republicans or a neo-isolationist like Rand Paul - Other than those two issues both of which would completely and utterly shatter the GOP - they are more united by their hatred of the Democrats and all things liberal then they are divided over other issues. And Christi passes their minimal litmus test the same as McCain and Romney did.

Christie personally and very publicly thanked President Obama for bringing federal government aid to New Jersey after Sandy hit. The Tea Party will only have to see a picture of him hugging the President and they will want to throw Christie out on the street. Along with a near paranoid fear of federal power, the one overriding issue for hard core Tea Party types is, of course, racism.

like they did around one after another during the 2012 primaries - but in the end - if Christie wins the nomination the possibility of defeating Hillary or whoever the Democratic nominee happens to be - will become too much of a uniting factor. Rick Santorum is working very hard behind the scenes to lay the foundation of a credible run for the Republican nomination - I think we should all wish him well

During the last primary season he led briefly. The pressure made him careless and he began to say what he really felt about a number of issues. Remember:

"I don't want to make Black peoples' lives better."

Your points are correct. But that photo-op with the President was good politics. It left the general public with the image that Christie is, you know, reasonable. It was especially reassuring to main stream repugs. But he's not reasonable; he's as rabid as they come. The teabaggers' reaction may have been initially sour, but they could come back around if he's sold to them correctly. That's just what the Koch Bros. do so well. Look what they did for Walker in Wisconsin. Time will tell.

He clearly has a shot at winning over some of the wing-nut crowd. On the whole, though, I still think his nomination would split the Republicans, and that would lead to their near certain defeat

I could not vote for this hot-head. He makes McCain look calm and collected.
When McCain picked Wailin' Palin for his running mate, a friend of mine called them the hot-head and the air-head. Would not be shocked if Christie did run and pick an "air-head" like McCain did.

Puffer Fish was not chosen because according to the vetting people, he had to much political baggage, He was number 1 on their list, but he wouldn't answer all the questions. Whatever scared the campaign is sure to be exploited.

We need strong State and National Democratic leadership
It seems to me that Republicans are using the corporate media with all their favorite mouth pieces reading their scripts while Democrats just sit there saying "oh well" that's not so.
What are the Democrats doing while Republicans are getting away all these lies?
All they need is one strong BS statement and the less informed voters will run with that. No they wont take the time to read the whole argument or watch or listen to the details.
Democrat leaders cant assume that voters will realize what the Repukes are handing them is BS. Why should the Democrats be on the defensive about the ACA? Every Democratic Governor should be defending the plan but for the most part they are silent. And when is the last time you have seen or heard our DNC chairman?
The Republicans aren't about to be defeated this time around and they will do everything possible to make sure it happens...
Democratic better get their act together or we lose .
We won in 2012 because of the President's organization, the ground troops and the state leaders for the reelection of President Obama. We don't have that organization within our national party as Howard Dean did.I don't believe that will be matched in 2016. That is why Democrats need to fight back now and force the Repukes on defensive and we win.
