Paul Walker Dead -- 'Fast and The Furious' Star Dies in Fiery Car Crash
Source: TMZ
Paul Walker -- best known for his role in "The Fast and the Furious" movies -- died Saturday afternoon after a single-car accident and explosion in Southern California ... TMZ has learned.
The accident happened in Santa Clarita -- north of Los Angeles -- and according to multiple sources connected to Paul ... the actor was in a Porsche when the driver somehow lost control and slammed into a post or a tree ... and then the car burst into flames.
Several of our sources -- some who are still at the scene of the accident -- tell us Paul and another person in the car were killed. Law enforcement is still on the scene, and we're told the L.A. County Coroner's Office is on the way.

(13,227 posts)He was selling test drives with him in the Porsche for his charity organization. It was to benefit hurricane victims in the Philippines.
The problem with a novice driving a supercar such as that Porsche is that those things can be very hard to handle. Not like driving the ol' Camry around town.

(21,691 posts)The single vehicle collision occurred about 3:30 p.m. local time. Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriffs Station and the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived to find a vehicle engulfed in flames. Two people in the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the collision is under investigation, said Sheriffs Deputy Kim Manatt.
According to a statement on his Twitter account, Walker, 40, was attending a charity event to aid Filipino victims of Typhoon Haiyan for his organization Reach Out Worldwide, formed in 2010 as a quick response first-aid organization.

I read your link - I knew the accident wasn't his fault but I'd forgotten he was only 24 when he died.

RIP for the two that died. Looks like the test drive was for a good cause.

(12,894 posts)test drive these fast cars? It's irresponsible and just plain stupid!
My daughter's high school band has fundraisers like this, where they pay to test drive the car and the band gets so much for the fundraiser. Except they used Ford the last time and these cars are much slower! (with the exception of the mustang-- which they didn't use)
Gosh, this is so sad.My heart breaks for his daughter and family.

(89,255 posts)the problem is that people think it means they can drive anywhere as they do on the track. doesn't matter how good you are, regular streets are not made for driving that way.
A professional race car driver was behind the wheel? What was his name ?
Still, I agree with you and actually, now that I know it was a professional driver, it pisses me off even more.

(12,894 posts)and the fact that not only is the "street" not a racetrack, but that you have the lives of others in your hands.
It's just so sad and it could have been avoided from what I'm hearing.
Edited to add:
Evidently, Roger Rodus owned the car shop too...

(47,168 posts)They were going around a long sweeper curve to the right, slightly uphill. They crashed well after the curve. The car fishtailed like they were accelerating coming out of the curve. I think they must have been racing another car to do something this stupid. This is the where the skid marks are load it up in google maps:
