Family: American detained in NKorea in good health

Source: AP-Excite

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The family of an elderly American detained for more than a month in North Korea says the Swedish ambassador has seen the man and found him to be in good health.

Merrill Newman's family said in a statement Saturday that the State Department told them that the Swedish ambassador to North Korea had visited the 85-year-old at a Pyongyang hotel. The statement said Newman reported that he was being treated well.

The family pleaded with North Korean authorities to take Newman's health and age into account and let him go as an act of humanitarian compassion.

Newman was taken off a plane Oct. 26 while preparing to leave North Korea after a 10-day tour. North Korean authorities released a video Saturday showing Newman apologizing for alleged crimes during the Korean War.

FULL story at link.

I don't expect little Kim to have compassion for a man who fought in a war he convinces his people they are still fighting every day. maybe they should ask Dennis Rodman to give him a call. Seriously. He might have a much better chance at getting him freed then any American diplomat.
