Administration: We Have Met Our Goals For Fixing HealthCare.gov

Source: TPM

CAITLIN MACNEAL – DECEMBER 1, 2013, 9:03 AM EST

The White House announced Sunday that Healthcare.gov works for the vast majority of users. According to a progress report from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, 50,000 users can access the website at once.

"While we strive to innovate and improve our outreach and systems for reaching consumers, we believe we have met the goal of having a system that will work smoothly for the vast majority of users," the report reads.

The problem was that it didn't meet the goals that it had originally set.

So the result is to improve service and lower goals and then unilaterally and without evidence say you've met them. (When we have goal-setting at work, we always meet our goals. Not the goals we set last year for ourselves this year, those are pretty much always way off the mark because we have to set them in accordance with employer policies and expectations. But the goals we set two weeks ago for this week we always meet, because all that matters is reporting that we met our goals.)

The web site, however, isn't the end game. The political ACA questions going into the 2014 elections will be:

1. How many people have signed up by the deadline and will the administration delay the individual mandate?

2. Will there be a sufficient number of people paying premiums to make the numbers work for those (primarily older & less healthy)who could not afford an actuarial-based premium?

3. How will the administration handle those who don't obtain approved coverage by March 31st?

It's also possible to criticize Obamacare from the left, as a scam to provide guaranteed profits for the insurance companies. But then, you already knew this. Didn't you?

I created an account on Oct. 1 and haven't been able to log in after trying countless times. I called on Nov. 6 and filled out an application over the phone and have yet to receive any information in the mail or email about my account. Has anyone been able to log in to their account yet?

One of them mentioned that they gave up on their original account and started fresh. Unless you have a good reason not to, you probably should try that, if you can't access the original account you created. Based on the horror stories going around about how the site was when it first went online, that one might be lying dismembered in a bit bucket somewhere.

Thanks. I just called and spoke to a marketplace representative at healthcare.gov. She was also not able to log me in so she suggested I create a new account using a different username and password. I changed my username and clicked on "Forgot your Password". I then received an email to start the process all over again. The representative was able to connect my application which I filled out over the phone with my new account. I'm now about to walk myself through the plans that are available. Think I'll post this info on "general discussion" for others who are experiencing similar problems and pulling their hair out

After much aggravation, I got the application in, but could never get past one point and on to actual enrollment. Today, the site said "if you're stuck, you can start over", so we did. New application went smoothly, got to the enrollment process, now have to decide between plans.

I'm quite pleased!

Had it been a GOP roll out the corporate media would have sugar coated it and explained exactly the real issue was with canceled policies. Heck, the corporate owned insurance companies would have initially complied with ACA advising the canceled policy holders of the alternatives.

So since 2010, The GOP party with their 48th attempt to destroy Obamacare came in to effect in full force with the help of the corporate media who is still now reporting the (-), I find this information quite pleasing.

But you still have Issa out investigating and lying and wasting more tax payer's money. The shutdown is still in many American's minds.

I've had to spend the last 5 days (in San Diego) with my "mid-Michigan" brother-in-law and my "the union saved his butt, great pay and benefits, UPS driver" niece's husband (my sister is about half Bagger nuts and my generous niece just does not talk politics.)

My retired BIL, keeps going on about how O-bama care is going to make their Medicare worse...no answers when I ask how...and he drones on about the website woes that never should have happened, and the WMDs were simply moved out of Iraq?!?

My niece's husband will start ranting how O-bama keeps murdering innocents abroad with drones and that Americans here are next...and that O-bama smokes COKE to this day! W...T...F!

The worst is that my niece's boys have bee BRAINWASHED by the dad into all this
PukeBag bullshit...the teenage boys are very smart but follow dad with his crap...it really sickened me when the 17 year old said "I only watch Fox News...the other stations lie."

...time to bolt home on Monday.

I guess this is your way of referring to the Tea Party supporters. But they aren't the only ones who are critical of Obamacare. Some people on the left also oppose it for good reasons. Your relative is right that Obamacare will hurt Medicare, by cutting federal support by at least $717 billion over ten years. Only $154 billion of that will come from the relatively useless corporate subsidy for Medicare Advantage.

Obamacare is not a simple "left versus right" issue. But you know that, don't you?

about the ACA trashing Medicare had vanished from DU. Apparently not.

Meanwhile, I am happy that I pay 50% less for brand name meds in the Medicare donut hole thanks to Obama.

Welcome to DU.

The Progressives' problem with the ACA is it adhered too closely to the original Republican plan which it was based on. We wanted Single Payer. For everybody.

As for "Obamacare will hurt Medicare", so far that doesn't look likely to happen. As usual, it is much more nuanced than Teabaggers, or even you, will admit.

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2013/aug/19/will-obamacare-hurt-medicare-advantage/

And if it makes you happy, we'll go back to calling them Teabaggers since they like the name so much.

http://crooksandliars.com/david-neiwert/enough-whining-teabaggers-actually-i

Moreover, as Jay Nordlinger at National Review admits, the term "teabagger" was introduced to the political lexicon by Tea Party movement leaders:

The first big day for this movement was Tax Day, April 15. And organizers had a gimmick. They asked people to send a tea bag to the Oval Office. One of the exhortations was “Tea Bag the Fools in D.C.” A protester was spotted with a sign saying, “Tea Bag the Liberal Dems Before They Tea Bag You.” So, conservatives started it: started with this terminology. But others ran with it and ran with it.

Tommy Christopher at Mediaite has it about right:

The origin of the term is relevant in determining the relative size of the Tea Party’s violin. What wasn’t pointed out to Tapper is the fact that the Tea Partiers not only invented the term, they did so in order to inflict a similar double entendre onto the President, the Democrats, and liberals in general. Hence, it’s a violin so small, you need an electron microscope with a zoom lens to see it.

Now, they’re trying to re-cast the term as a slur, on a par with the “n-word,” hurtful to all the Tea Party members who are just ordinary moms, dads, sons, and daughters. The latter point has some resonance, but the former is ridiculous in the extreme.

In emails, protest signs, t-shirts, and online, early Tea Party literature urged protesters to “Tea Bag the White House,” and to “Tea-bag the liberal Dems before they tea-bag you.” The suggestion is that the metaphoric “tea-bags” be shoved in the mouths of the President, Democratic members of Congress, and even ordinary citizens who identify as liberal Democrats. The idea that they just didn’t know the term’s only (at that time) meaning is belied by the fact that they obviously knew it was negative (and non-consensual), since they didn’t want it done to them, and also because it only had one meaning.

It was only after MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow and David Shuster, and CNN’s Anderson Cooper, turned the tables on the term that Tea Partiers objected. They were perfectly satisfied to advocate the metaphoric mouth-rape of liberal men, women, and children, but had the nerve to become indignant when the insult boomeranged on them.

You seemingly took exception to "Pukebaggers". Otherwise, why note it in your initial comment? (ooo... look... logic and critical thinking!)

If you only wanted to comment on the fact that "both sides dislike the ACA" you would have done just that. Instead you dripped some disdain down your nose and then proceeded to tell a whole board full of people how we feel about a subject we've been collectively discussing for years now.

But thanks for armchair quarterbacking it for us. If you weren't around, us foolish lib'ruls wouldn't know what to think.
