What is it with over-the-hill, white action stars running for political office? Elect him and it's another embarrassment for home state.

(56,582 posts)AZ was a pro-Confederate territory and NM was a pro-Union territory. Just one of those weird culture things.

(33,424 posts)At the beginning of the Civil War there was no AZ territory. It was the Territory of NM. Confederate sympathizers in what is now southern New Mexico and what is now southern AZ declared support for the Confederacy. The northern sections of what is now those states tended to support the Union. The U.S. tried to create a territory of AZ in 1863 with a north/south border instead of a east/west border. In 1866 the borders as they are now known were established.

(6,154 posts)It plays into the American mythos. Cowboy politics, actors as politicians or presidents, joe everybody being president, the Wild West mentality, people seem to lap it up. Little do they realize, or care, how much damage is done.

The Marked for Death star looks half dead already, and can probably look forward to a bright future losing arguments to empty chairs at political conventions.

(53,661 posts)FOUNTAIN HILLS, Arizona (Reuters) - Action film star Steven Seagal, who racks up big body counts in his on-screen battles with bad guys, took on a new role on Saturday, training posse volunteers for controversial Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio in how to use guns to protect schools in shooting incidents.
Arpaio, who styles himself as "America's Toughest Sheriff," enlisted Seagal to train his Maricopa County posse members at a school in Fountain Hills, a suburb northeast of Phoenix, with children used as stand-ins for scared students.
Seagal, a burly martial arts expert turned actor, guided 48 volunteers through various aspects of responding to a shooting, including room-to-room searches, and critiqued their work.
"I am here to try to teach the posse firearms and martial arts to try to help them learn how to respond quicker and help protect our children," Seagal said...
