It's on: GOP, Democrats fight over women voters
Source: AP
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Is the 2012 election shaping up to be all about women?
President Barack Obama is working hard to woo this pivotal constituency in his re-election race. His Democratic allies are even accusing the GOP of launching a "war against women" after the Republicans reignited a new national debate over cultural issues, including birth control.
But now the Republicans - including Ann Romney and Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski - are striking back with a promise: Their party will win women by focusing on the real No. 1 issue, the economy.

(14,337 posts)is too much like the 19th Century. This horse left the corral decades ago for the majority of women, and they don't WANT to go back.

Failure to utilize birth control - and when necessary abortion - is a virtual sentence to a life of economic hardship.

(13,800 posts)Every time I got suckered into voting for some "greater good", I and other women got snookered because, of course, what was important to us was never addressed.
So, I pretty much look at absolutely every bill through the "how does this affect me" lenses. If it affects me negatively or doesn't address my factors, then I usually won't support it.
Keep in mind, things like Gay Marriage affect me because removing any kind of discrimination has a positive effect on me.
But sacrificing my rights for some "greater good" has simply meant that white men continue to make the rules.

(1,819 posts)By characterising women who use birth control as sluts and trying to cut reproductive rights they have basically just took a dump on women voters.
I don't think they'll be getting them back anytime soon.

I don't think so.

(46,436 posts)it wouldn't be worth trading reproductive rights to have them "fix" it.
Besides, if it weren't for them, we would have made even more progress toward resolving the mess that Dumbyass left us with.

(15,185 posts)Yeah, because we know those congressional republicans have been doing exactly that for the last year and a half.
They've blocked every possible reform possible. Not only that but didn't many fight the first bill Obama signed (Lilly Ledbetter bill right?). Yeah, the same republicans that decided a hearing on birth control would be chaired with all men, without even any female doctors or women's health specialists. The same republicans that think it's just fine if health insurance companies discriminate against women for well...being women. I'm pretty sure I could go on, but you get the point.

(10,857 posts)Allow me to turn this over to one of the most observant political analysts I happen to know:
"Hon, how many women do you think will vote Republican this year?"
"Hopefully none that I know."
See? The Republicans are doomed.
