Target said it will stop offering health coverage to part-time workers, citing new public insurance exchanges floated by the U.S. government.

Less than 10 percent of the company's 361,000 employees currently participate in the insurance plan that is being discontinued, Target said in a company blog post on Tuesday.

I would be happy if my job stopped offering it. I could get it so much cheaper on the exchange after subsidies but, unfortunately, I don't qualify since it's offered through my job.

dump the cost from the company and the worker to just on the worker and the government. And the savings will not be handed to the consumer in lower costs on goods. The cost savings it will just be transferred to the top and not to higher paychecks to the worker, you know the people that actually do the work for the company...

They just offered it so the part timers could participate in the same plan as the full timers.

They aren't losing anything, they are being given the freedom to get something better for less money.

The law required the part timers to stick with the company plan, but gives no subsidy.

If they were really after the freedom for people to choose wouldn't they give the employees the option of continuing with their current plan or getting the stipend?

If they continue the current plan within the corporation, none of the part timers are eligible to go to the exchanges and get a subsidy.

They are getting a $500 payment from the company if they are on the company plan. Just for having had the company plan.

Plus, if these are younger, healthy individuals, it improves the pool in Obamacare!
