'We hid this during the election': Obama ally confesses he covered up 'race' video Andrew Breitbart
Source: Daily Mail
A supporter of Barack Obama has admitted he tried to hide a video of the President speaking out in favour of a controversial Harvard professor while he was a student.
Conservative rabble-rouser Andrew Breitbart had promised to release the 'explosive' video, which shows Mr Obama embracing outspoken academic Derrick Bell, just weeks before his sudden death last Thursday.
A website unearthed the video earlier today, but it initially seemed much less dramatic than one might have expected given Mr Breitbart's boasts.

No President Obama scandal here. Breitbart fail.
Old and In the Way
(37,540 posts)All the tape does is reinforce that Obama was intelligent, articulate, and an excellent public speaker who had the respect of his peers at Harvard Law 20 years ago. If anything, it shows that he wasn't a recently manufactured politician and that he has always been fighting for fairness and against injustice. Good luck spinning this into a negative, Fox News.

Americans were going to attack the next day.

After watching ALL of the videos today - Ogletree in my opinion was making a joke about hiding it. But it looks like the UK Daily Mail is going to go with 'shock' headlines instead of what actually happened. Grrr.
Ogletree did NOT 'confess' to anything.

(7,062 posts)IIRC, The Frontline spin was that Barack had the support of all the black students but then kinda sold out to the white conservatives once he became Editor of the Law Journal.
Sound familiar?
When I saw what Ogletree said it was clearly tongue in cheek.. The punk Hannity thinks he has a story unfortunatly for him this is a dud.. PBS had this footage since like 1990 so who was hiding it..

"This can't possibly be the unedited video! Breitbart MUST have had some more dirt on Obama, otherwise why would he have had him murdered? After all, it's not like Breitbart has any history of trying to make a big story out of nothing. The real tape will be aired soon, along with the Michelle Obama Whitey tape. Any minute...now! Now! Any minuuuuute...now!" (repeat ad infinitum)

(15,772 posts)It meets the same level of deviation uttered by Santorum spinning John Kennedy's speech in to a source of physical nausea. Rick Santorum is not a well man nor was Andrew Breightbart.
You can be sure the various right wing shills cannot match the cognitive dissonance of the man who viewed this tape of young Barak Obama and somehow thought others would find it objectionable as he did. Unfortunately there are more than a few who if lacking the words to create distortions want to be led by someone willing to put a negative voice into their racist fears. It crops up time and time again the self described 30% ultra conservative who live in a self destructive world prepared to abandon education, Social Security, access to health care, persecute women, roll back civil rights and impose some sort of vague state religion. We are just lucky so far the super demogauge has not yet emerged.

(2,262 posts)Don't know if I'd mention big words like demagogue to them though; they might get ideas....
In fact? My theory is that the American Right became much more powerful, unfortunately ... when they became aware of the term "fascism." As soon as they heard it - they began to consciously copy it as a positive model.
It got bad, when they were joined by failed History professor Newt. Whose area speciality was Modern European History. My theory? When Newt heard the left calling Republicans "fascists," Newt looked it up - and agreed. And then? He and the party began consciously using Hitler's/Mussolini's/Franco's fascism. Using it consciously, deliberately, as a model.
Particularly? The classic fascist link-up: between 1) Church, 2) Army/Troops, 3) Big Industry, and 4) domestic intelligence and prisons. Pusuing 5) wars with other countries, instead of diplomacy. In the name of 6) Nation, nationalism, patriotism. And? 7) Racism.
So? Careful about mentioning the "d" word! Soon as they understand it - they'll try to do it!
Just like children.
By the way? My avatar is John Kennedy. I worked briefly for his wife many years ago.

(8,492 posts)...besides that, I got to see the video last nite. I was stunned. I saw a young man with intelligence, charisma, conviction and courage. And then, I thought of his mother and grandmother. The two strong and independent women that helped mold this young man. The women that nurtured those attributes. I realized that they were both still alive then and hoped that they had the chance to see this video. They never got the chance to see his inauguration and all of his subsequent powerful speeches.
That young man grew up to marry another strong and independent woman. He's raising his daughter's to follow in these women's footsteps. This is a President who not only cares about women's rights, but is passionate about those rights. A man who admires strength in women and doesn't fear it. Who believes that they have the right and intelligence to know what to do with their own bodies.
I had tears in my eyes watching that young man give that speech. I saw the pride in that professor's face. I've been a supporter of Pres. Obama since shortly after he announced his run for the Presidency. I learned as much as I could about him, I watched every speech he gave. But, this video...this has possibly given me even more reason to support him.
I thought of something else. Where are the videos of Santorum, Romney, Gingrich or even Paul from their college days? What causes did they fight for? More beer at the frat house? Were they treating women with respect and admiration, or were they having weekend contests to see who could sleep with the most college girls? Release the videos, men!
I wish his mother and grandmother could see him now. Thank you to the Dunham women, and his grandfather, for raising our President not as a religious zealot, but a thoughtful, passionate, freethinking man. You did a fantastic job.

(5,179 posts)Although I voted for him, President Obama has disappointed me a number of times. I've tried to keep in mind that he has had to tread very carefully and has had to face a disrespect that I've never seen before. At present it looks like he's beginning to revert to what seemed to be his real principles. The Republican candidates all look like losers and I can't wait to see the debates.(Bring it on, Newt, although you don't seem likely). Obama seems to be the most amazingly intelligent and obviously prescient president in my politically aware lifetime (goes back to late Eisenhower). I hope, if reelected,he gets his act in gear.

(8,492 posts)...where we feel disappointed. But, as you said, he's had to tread carefully and work with an enormous amount of obstruction. He's still managed to get things accomplished.
I think he's had it with the GOP. He's tried to work with them, tried to compromise, even tried to stealthfully reintroduce their own ideas that get shot down. Now, it's up to all of us to do our best to get more Democrats elected so he has some backing. Shut those GOP holes for good. If we can't do that for him, then I'm buying him an aluminum baseball bat for Christmas.
