Florida State University is in the state capital Tallahassee. This story is about Eastern Florida State College in Cocoa about 40 miles east of Orlando.

The Orlando Sentinel reports: "Two men apparently came on campus and attacked a man in the parking lot. After the assault, the victim went to their car, grabbed a gun and shot one of his attackers," sourcing the Palm Bay chief of police. Florida Today, based in Melbourne also has more coverage.

Rather, it seems like what Marissa Alexander went to jail for because the victim escaped, grabbed a weapon, then attacked.

if the attack was over and the 2 were leaving, he went to his car and got his gun then shot them, I don't see how this is self defense, but, this is FL.

According to Palm Bay Police Spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez, two men were beating up a third in one of the school's parking lots.

The man who was being beaten retreated to his car, where he grabbed a gun. According to witnesses, he fired his gun, wounding one person, as he was being beaten.

In the parking lot, a pool cue snapped in half lay about 50 feet from a red car with its engine still running.

The shooting comes about six weeks after a state appeals court ruled that students attending public universities can keep weapons in their cars while on campus, according to Reuters.
