Koch brothers bombard vulnerable Senate Democrat Kay Hagan

Source: Politico

The Koch brothers have a seemingly bottomless pot of cash this election year ó and no one knows it better than Sen. Kay Hagan.

Americans for Prosperity, a group co-founded by the conservative billionaires, has already dropped $8.2 million on TV, radio and digital ads in an effort to defeat the North Carolina Democrat. According to sources tracking media buys, the group has so far spent more in North Carolina than all Democratic outside groups in every Senate race in the country ó combined.

And while AFP wonít predict the amount it will ultimately spend in North Carolina, if the conservative group keeps the same pace, itíll spend more than $27 million by Election Day in the Tar Heel State. Thatís more than twice what any outside group has spent in the past dozen years in North Carolina congressional races.

The staggering figures make North Carolina ground zero in the unprecedented TV war expected to define the 2014 midterm elections. Powerful outside groups like AFP can now raise and spend unlimited money, empowering big donors to single-handedly reshape a race and even determine which party controls the Senate for the final two years of Barack Obamaís presidency.

1. Hagan have "Moral Monday" word by mouth

which will lead to votes. She will prevail. Koch Brothers and other RW billionaires want a dictatorship and I consider them commies.

3. This is the Senate seat Dems nationwide need to rally the troops. NC is NOT a red state - it's a

heavily gerrymandered state. If Kochs succeed here in 2014 they will over everywhere and they KNOW it.

4. That is what I was thinking. She should be on our list of those to help. But only if there is a

chance that she can win because the idea is that we DUers use our money to win as many as we can.

5. True,

but what I wouldn't give to have a true liberal in the seat. Hagan's another center right Dem.

The real problem is the state is now owned lock, stock, and barrel by Art Pope.

7. Her biggest problem is that she is a right of center Dem.

The right of center Republicans get a pass simply because they are Republicans, but as a Democrat she gets more scrutiny and the voters don't like the anti-populist politics they see. The anti-populist politics of the GOP however is not scrutinized because, well...they are Republicans and Daddy always voted for Republicans.

8. Word of mouth is the most powerful medium for marketing

It's why the community organizing approach is so effective.

TV ads, etc. will create an impact, but movements like Moral Monday can change the trajectory of history.

9. when you have outsiders spending this kind of money, this no longer is a fair election.

Just how stupid do the people of North Carolina have to be to fall for this bullshit. Even the republican voters in North Carolina should be able to realizes that the Kock Brothers don't represent their best interests.

10. The Kochs sell products in your grocery store: all stuff manufactured by "Georgia Pacific," like

Dixie cups, Brawny paper towels, Angel Soft toilet paper, etc.

11. My thought for reform is that to be eligible to donate, you have to be eligible to vote in that

specific election. No out of district (US Representatives), state (US Senate) or country (POTUS) contributions in federal elections.
