Obama opposes NC marriage amendment proposal

Source: WRAL

RALEIGH, N.C. — President Barack Obama is speaking out against an amendment on the May ballot that would define marriage in North Carolina as being between one man and one woman.

The Obama campaign issued a statement Friday, calling the proposed amendment discriminatory.

“While the president does not weigh in on every single ballot measure in every state, the record is clear that the president has long opposed divisive and discriminatory efforts to deny rights and benefits to same sex couples," campaign spokesman Cameron French said in the statement. "That’s what the North Carolina ballot initiative would do – it would single out and discriminate against committed gay and lesbian couples – and that’s why the president does not support it.”

Although North Carolina law prohibits same-sex couples from marrying, it is the only state in the Southeast without such restrictions written into its constitution.

I recommend making it 'anti-gay' since the word 'gay' is not in the original headline at all.

4. I don't understand what banning gay marriage is supposed to achieve.

Is that supposed to make the world a better place? I don't understand what the intense motivation is about, when there are so many other problems the country is facing. I'm heterosexual, and I really don't understand. It's almost like a panic to block the gays, before they try to legalize gay marriage.

for the first time in 100 years. This is their way of controlling what LGBT North Carolinians do in their bedrooms.

Gay marriage at a federal level for ALL in all 50 states. Otherwise this will continue. It's still a joke when gay couples can't file taxes together as married, or collect benefits like Social Security. The gay community should be able to will those benefits to whom ever they wish. Why must the government get to keep my benefits when I die because by law I ALWAYS have to file SINGLE.

and his own damn opposition discriminates against us. For him to pretend he opposes discrimination while he in fact supports it is galling.
It is just their way of stealing from us. That's all it is. That is all it is. They use their God Talk to mask that. It's a money thing. Money is in the mix, money is their God.

I am so tired of this game we must play. It could and should be handled like the civil rights of the 60's. Or else the gay community should be able to sue the government for discrimination.

But after reading some other opinions elsewhere, I am starting to think that maybe, just maybe, Obama has really got this.. That he really knows exactly what he is doing.. knows he can not just come out and say what we all want to hear, but he knows how to drip, drip..sneak in little by little.. until, after he gets elected.. maybe before, I don't know... suddenly bam. all has changed...WE WIN!.

I didn't explain this as well as other have...
Maybe I am wrong.. I hope not...

President Obama said during the 2008 campaign and whenever the question has been brought up that he is against DOMA; the Justice Department 18 months ago even stopped defending parts of DOMA in court because it violates civil rights. So to suggest that Obama is against gay marriage on a federal level is preposterous. He has even passed executive order after executive order to give more rights to LGBT couples on the federal level.

Get the full facts before you spout nonsense. This thing of making Obama out to be homophobe is plain stupid and shows a level of ignorance towards the facts. His personal beliefs are one thing; which I would even say I don't really take at face value and makes me think he says certain things to walk the line. But on a political level...he tends to follow through---and that is no different on LGBT marriage laws. He reacted and wrote letters to the California government when the prop 8 happened.

If so, will it be "While I don't personally believe that homosexuals should be allowed by their states to marry, after all, God's in the mix, I also don't think they should be prohibited from marriage by law."
