TN Senate votes for open gun carry without permit
Source: WRCBtv
NASHVILLE, TN (AP) - The state Senate has passed a bill to allow Tennesseans to openly carry guns without a state-issued permit. The chamber voted 25-2 in favor of the bill sponsored by Republican Sen. Mae Beavers of Mt. Juliet.
Beavers said the measure would keep the background checks and training requirements in order to carry concealed firearms, but would allow anyone legally allowed to own a gun to carry it openly.
The bill would also remove state restrictions on the location of ammunition when firearms are being transported in vehicles, and would allow guns to be removed from cars on school property for the purposes of moving storing them in another part of the vehicle.
The companion bill is awaiting a vote in the budget subcommittee of the House Finance Committee.

Kudos to the Democrats who voted for this.

(17,819 posts)For concealed carry, background checks and training are required?
But for open carry, no requirement, anyone who owns a gun can do so?
I'm not following.

(521 posts)But for open carry, no requirement, anyone who owns a gun can do so?
Correct. There are now a few states such as Alaska and Vermont (and a few others) which have "Constutional Carry"

Let's hope the trend continues!

(17,819 posts)Then why would anyone bother with concealed carry?

As a matter of fact, lets repeal the Second Amendment.
This shit is getting way out of hand.

(33,982 posts)In Washington we have no training requirement. But we do a full background check. Not the instant check phone call, but local police, state and FBI records and my prints are sent to the FBI to see if I'm a suspect in anything.
Many states vary. Some have training requirements, one state has no requirements at all, including no requirement to have a license at all.
Not all states are open carry. Washington is, but you can't carry in a bar, the secured area of a jail, and a couple other exceptions.

(521 posts)Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Kentucky, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia, and Wyoming. They all have open carry.
The following states allow open carry with a license: Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Tennessee (soon to move the above list!), and Utah. Better avoid them as well, just to be safe.
Gee...that doesn't leave that many states for you to visit, does it?
For your convenience, here's a map showing all the states that you must, as per your words, avoid at all costs:

If you ever plan on driving coast-to-coast, that will make your drive a bit, well...difficult, to say the least!

(2,060 posts)reaches down for her Glock 27. That's the way I look at it. I knew this was going to happen. There will never be an open carry law in California, but they seem to be loosening up on ownership laws. I had to take a test and wait a month for a DOJ check. I think only one person on my street doesn't have a gun now. And he's a preacher. Well, those people in those states can start breathing a sign of relief. A drone may take them down, but won't a drunken kid with a Bowie knife. They can bring back horses and stuff, be okay with me.

(24,135 posts)There's been a handful of women who successfully shot their would be rapist.
Meanwhile 94% of women who die by the gun are from their husbands, boyfriends, significant other.
And then there's members of our whacked out police - lots of women get raped by cops.

You will keep coming back with already known arguments. I tried all this peace and no guns stuff. I want to try the other way now. Plus, I feel--base on our government--it is time for us to be armed. When this year is over you may not feel the way you do now.

(2,060 posts)Go down to use of weapons, and multiply the known and unknown assailants times the respective percentages that involved a gun. Notice how knives are used more than guns. Why is this? Well, presumably, the rapist doesn't want to accidentally shoot himself while he is raping. So, moving forward under open carry: the rapist doesn't want to shoot himself or be shot by his victim. Hence, a decrease in rapes. And if a couple of rapists get killed, oh well... It is getting down to self-preservation.

(24,135 posts)open carry is illegal and my state passed a couple minor laws for background checks and limits on magazine clips.
Are you happy two Democrats lost their jobs over that?
One of our districts voted to allow open carry, then the reasonable people submitted a petition in record time to bring it to a vote in November. If it passes, I will never go to their outlet stores again. Which was something we used to enjoy, it's a beautiful drive and the deals are good.
Like I say, I don't ever want to see grown men prance around with their guns intimidating the rest of us just to be dicks, divide us even more and score political points with gun crowd.

(1,245 posts)carry was illegal (fat chance of that ever happening in Florida), the lowlifes would be strutting their stuff out in the open along with all the other self professed tough guys. The only reason the POS legislature in Tallahassee hasn't passed an open carry law is the Chamber of Commerce would flip out. Don't want to scare off the tourists with a bunch of gun totin' yahoos, don't ya know.

(39,181 posts)it is not a Florida issue. It is not an issue - as concealed carry has increased, there has been no corresponding increase in gun deaths.
secondvariety
(1,245 posts)that's true or not but that's not the point. There HAS been an increase of gun toters (generally old men and Casper Milquetoast types) starting shit and suddenly finding they "fear for their life" and shooting unarmed people.
Since America has obviously lost the battle on any type gun control, at least make concealed carry illegal so the less paranoid of us know who to avoid.

Do you honestly think that fat troll Zimmerman would have confronted Trayvon Martin if he hadn't had his shootin' iron in his pocket? Do you think that coward Dunn would have confronted a car full of teenagers without his precious? Do you really think that POS Reeves would have started a fight with a man half his age and twice his size if not for his little gun? No, they would have slunked away and gotten on with their miserable lives.

(39,181 posts)you said that there was an increase in such incidents. Your words. Why don't you own what you say and prove it?
Let me give you a hand - FBI crime stats show a steady decrease in violent gun deaths over the past 20 years. We have cut our murder and manslaughter rate in half. Do you have hard evidence that this trend has reversed and the murder rate has gone up?
Simple question. Do you have simple answer?

(39,067 posts)feel like they need to be armed at all times? What brought that on, fifty years ago
nobody felt the need for concealed carry and even though I don't think open carry has ever been outlawed in Ohio I never saw anyone carrying a gun until maybe two years ago. The ones I have seen carrying a open carry weapon seemed to be suffering from the short guy syndrome. What seems strange to me the more the crime rate drops the more paranoid people become. All I can figure is with the MSM today people hear about crimes nationwide where it only got local attention before most of the time.

(38,613 posts)That's my guess. I don't have a tv, I live in a city with strict gun laws, and I'm not afraid to walk around at night. Since the takeover my wife and I no longer attend church ( I mean its all just a Betty Bowers God anyway); we don't watch television or take a newspaper(for the reasons you state); we don't go out at night for walks (too many weirdos walking around); we have bought steel security doors and windows for the entire house; we meet with the neighbors secretly at random times (don't want the NSA there); we take vacations only to places deemed SAFE by the AAA, if not necessarily interesting;...
Life is really grand in America since 9-11: bin laden and/or the false flag has succeeded beyond their wildest imagination. When the drone finally hits my house I wonder will I be sad or relieved as I lay there drowning in my own blood.

(994 posts)CCW process to be completed. I've heard of the TN concealed permit taking a month or more to be processed. If someone is being targeted by a stalker, they need protection now, not whenever they get around to telling you it's OK to carry it.
I am glad to hear they are changing the law concerning ammo inside the vehicle as well.

(493 posts)that you think all people in Tennessee are inbred? You need to get out more.
I've been to 17 different countries, to at least 40 states within the U.S and I think Tennessee is about as good as it gets.
As a matter of fact, the town I live in (Brentwood a Suburb of Nashville), was in 2010 the wealthiest town in the U.S based on cost of living. Our average family income is around $160K a year. Our average home sale price is around $770K. The public school system my kids attend is ranked 152 in the nation with all schools (private and public) being considered. Our college graduation rate based on our population (30K residents) in my town is around 80% of all adults have a 4 year degree.
The only thing I can note in all of my travels in regards to the area I live in Tennessee is the fact that my observations I live among the best looking, most fit, well mannered population in the world. Even friends that come from out of state to visit can't get over how many absolutely stunning looking people live here and how safe this area is....you don't get that from inbreeding. Hell we don't even have to worry about locking our doors at night, even leave our car keys in our vehicles in our driveway.
I've lived all over, even in Europe for awhile, was raised in Ohio and can honestly say that I have never witnessed any inbreeding, except for maybe in our cities...maybe that's why most of our cities such as yours or Detroit are in such bad shape?
Again, quit being so shallow, you are neglecting yourself. Is it because you never get the chance to get out much? And please do tell where you are from.
