Ukrainian police remove pro-Russian forces in Kharkiv, while protesters in Donetsk dig in

Source: Washington Post

DONETSK, Ukraine — Police removed pro-Russian demonstrators occupying a building in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv early Tuesday, but protesters vowed not to relinquish their hold on the regional administrative center here in Donetsk.

Police in Luhansk, another city in eastern Ukraine, said pro-Russian demonstrators who have seized the security agency headquarters are holding 60 hostages there at gunpoint.

The security agency, or SBU, said its investigators had discovered that the building has also been mined with explosives.

That raises the tension considerably in the high-stakes standoff between Ukrainian authorities and the pro-Russian forces that suddenly struck Sunday evening, in what appeared to be a coordinated move in cities across eastern Ukraine.

My god what's it going to take to stop Putin's rampage for land and power.

Anyone who doesn't think these are Putin's thugs should read a bit about his steady campaign to crush democracy in Russia, his public calls for a new Russia empire based on retaking the former lands of the USSR, and about the history of invasions like Czechoslovakia in 1968 in which Russian tanks were "invited" into Prague.

and go with the EU-Russia-Ukraine brokered deal before CIA got impatient and fascists/neonazis took over.

Let them have free and fair elections in a year and get Ukraine the best deal possible -- whether from Russia or the EU.

There really was no need for a coup and these eventualities should have been anticipated especially in the light of there being no appetite for NATO for a war with Russia.

As usual, the West selfishly only thought of itself with no regard to the lives of Ukrainians caught in the crossfire.
