GOP woos Mike Pence for 2016, and Indiana governor says he’s ‘listening’
Source: Washington Post
There he was in Palm Beach, Fla., in February, evangelizing free-market conservatism and drawing a standing ovation from wealthy donors at a private dinner. In Germany last month, he assailed what he called President Obamas policy of conciliatory diplomacy. In Milwaukee, he urged Republican faithfuls last week to never relent.
Pence is also quietly cultivating influential Washington figures such as Bill Kristol and Gary Bauer, while becoming one of the loudest voices attacking Common Core, a set of education benchmarks that has sparked a revolt among tea party activists.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Pence acknowledged he was weighing his 2016 options amid calls from some supporters to consider a presidential run.

With Christie down and out, at least one of the midwest Republican Governors (who manage to get re-elected) will throw a hat into the ring.

(14,449 posts)They seem to have luck with Governors (except Romney). If we have Pence or Walker, it is just going to make it harder for us to win...we will win but it won't be as easy as with Bush or Cruz or even Paul.

(5,044 posts)With the GOP's 'top tear' candidates already showing cracks, they are digging in the barrel for more and more names. Mike Pence's Tea Party tie alone will sink him. Add in his crazy talk on the affordable care act and it's likely popularity in 2016, he's a bad bet for the GOP.

(14,449 posts)As much as I like the idea that the Republican party is dead. I think it is premature. I thought they were done for in the 90's quite frankly, but they came roaring back somehow. Except for FDR, I don't think we have had a one party president that had more than 3 terms in history. They always go back and forth. The Reagan and Bush years were 12 and that has been the longest for any party in many decades. I just want to ensure we can have a Democratic President for as long as possible.

(5,044 posts)Too many people commit to aiding democrats and when election season rolls around they cannot be found. We've got to show up and put up, every time that we do, we win big!
As for the republican party, they are like cockroaches! They survive, NEVER count them out!

(10,500 posts)Alf Landon lost in 1936 and Thomas Dewey lost in 1944 and 1948. They didn't nominate another governor until 1980.
Since 1980 Reagan and George W Bush won, while Mitt Romney lost. So they are 2-1 in modern times.
I think they will nominate Huckabee, who will lose.

(6,994 posts)When he was in Congress he was in the most red district in Indiana. His win as governor was not by that wide of a margin and if the DNC or the state party would have given our Democratic candidate a little more support instead of conceding before the campaign and election process ever began he may might not be governor. No this guy is one of those governors that refused to expand Medicaid just so he could see that Obama Care would not succeed.
