This is the story I am hearing which makes sense.

Some will ignore it and go on to be bothered later with PTSD, others like Bowe will react right then and there and refuse to continue to contribute to killing

I doubt it's really true, but I can see telling your captors exactly what they want to hear, just to make your life a lot easier.

If it were me, I would squeal like a little pig and tell them anything they wanted to know (even if I had to make it up), just to hopefully have an easier time of it.

'Reached by telephone, retired U.S. Marine Corps General James N. Mattis, a 45-year service veteran who served as CENTCOM commander from August 2010 to August 2012, told Fox News he may have received bits and pieces of the intelligence generated by Eclipse, but said Ashley, with whom he maintained a close working relationship, had not forwarded on to him the specific SITREPs cited by Fox News.

Mattis was also adamant that no one at CENTCOM or within the broader U.S. military or intelligence community -- despite intensive investigation of such allegations -- ever learned of anything to suggest Bergdahl had evolved into an active collaborator with the Haqqani network or the Taliban. "We were always looking for actionable intelligence," Mattis said. "It wasn't just the IC . We had tactical units that were involved in the fight. We had SIGINT. Any collaborators who were on the other side and who came over to our side. We kept an eye on this. ... There was never any evidence of collaboration."'

anyway:

The group is run by Duane R. ("Dewey&quot Clarridge, a former senior operations officer for the Central Intelligence Agency in the 1980s best known for having been indicted for lying to Congress about his role in the tangled set of events that became known as the Iran-Contra scandal. He was pardoned by the first President Bush in December 1992 while on trial.

several times. There's no telling what his coping and survival methods were, or whether he was brainwashed/tortured/drugged, in terms of finding fault on his conduct in captivity. Interesting that Mattis was never shown this by his subordinate, and that he said no one really thought Bergdahl was a collaborator.

A captured American soldier is training Taliban fighters bomb-making and ambush skills, according to one of his captors and Afghan intelligence officials. Private Bowe Bergdahl disappeared in June 2009 while based in eastern Afghanistan and is thought to be the only U.S. serviceman in captivity.
The 24-year-old has converted to Islam and now has the Muslim name Abdullah, one of his captors told The Sunday Times.

A Taliban deputy district commander in Paktika, who called himself Haji Nadeem, told the newspaper that Bergdahl taught him how to dismantle a mobile phone and turn it into a remote control for a roadside bomb.
Nadeem claimed he also received basic ambush training from the U.S. soldier.
'Most of the skills he taught us we already knew,' he said. 'Some of my comrades think he's pretending to be a Muslim to save himself so they wouldn't behead him.'

Afghan intelligence officials also believe that Bergdahl is 'cooperating with the Taliban' and is acting as adviser to fighters at a base in the tribal area of Pakistan.

Here's the famous picture from the Sunday Times in 2001 that shows Bin Laden's alleged supervillain-style underground fortress:

They called McCain "the Canary" after all the shit he said while a POW. The media rightfully did not repeat it. POWs say whatever it takes to stay alive, get more food, etc.

This report is disgusting and cannot be based on first hand information. Why oh why do you cite Fox News? Don't you think they get their propaganda out just fine without your help?

If you want to discuss the absurdity of the latest RW talking point, post it in GD or Politics, NOT in LBN where you are giving it legitimacy.

just yet that he ever sought to join the Taliban. His conduct in captivity probably won't weigh against him too much, unless it's known that he willingly tried to kill American forces. I mean...it's the Taliban, for God's sake, it's a miracle he's alive and appears to have working limbs and eyeballs.

In the first intercepted texts after Bergdahl's capture the Taliban's only argument was when to cut his head off. Doesn't sound like a willing recruit.

When Daniel Pearl was killed, there was no attempt to make it painless. There's no way a POW didn't know about what was coming.

P. S. Fox News is a POS.
