Goodell defends NFL's 2-game suspension of Rice for domestic violence

Source: cbsnews.com

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell defended the league on Friday against criticism that it was too lenient in suspending Ray Rice two games for his "horrible mistake."

"We just can't make up the discipline," Goodell said. "It has to be consistent with other cases. And it was in this matter."

Goodell stressed that the Baltimore Ravens' running back has assumed responsibility for his conduct, has no history of assault and is following a court order to enter a diversionary program following his domestic violence arrest.

No Goodell, a mistake is thinking you'll like the new Vin Diesel movie. Punching a women into unconsciousness and dragging her body through a casino is a CRIME.

Contrary to this CBS article, Rice did not just "punch" her. Here’s one of the few articles that actually describes what Rice did:

I'm about ready to wash my hands of the NFL for good.

Unfortunately, I already have tickets to see the Browns in Jacksonville in October.

And even then, only because he confessed and pleaded guilty. Had not done so and then been found guilty I would have favored a life ban.

I wonder what they'll do with him.... Hell, the other day he was handing out $100 bills to the fans. I love my Cowboys, but I know deep down the league like any other billion dollar company. Money trumps all.

Perhaps. But the "discipline" needs to change.

oh, he assumed responsibility? Well, what choice did he have? There is video of him knocking her out and dragging her like a caveman. You know, if they would have followed this incident up with a steroid test they would have given him a big punishment (you know it was a 'roid rage incident), but punch a woman and they basically go "meh"

Rice beats fiance unconscious, drags her out of the elevator, is met by (?)a staffer of the casino (?), then leaves her at the elevator entrance while he walks around in an unconcerned way. Pathetic display of lack of empathy.

My dad used to beat the shit out of my mom. Unfortunately (for me), he died long before I was big enough to give him what he deserved.

Beating up a woman (did he choke her?) until she loses consciousness is no small matter. Rice could have killed her and he's lucky he didn't.

As usual $ trumps all.
