Sprint ending pursuit of T-Mobile, sources say, and replacing Dan Hesse as CEO

Source: Kansas City Star

Sprint Corp. plans to drop its long efforts to acquire rival T-Mobile US Inc. and will replace chief executive officer Dan Hesse early Wednesday, published reports said.

Unconfirmed reports put Sprint board member Marcelo Claure in the CEO spot. He is the founder and head of Brightstar, which like Sprint is a property of Tokyo-based SoftBank Corp.

The shakeup in strategy and leadership was reported variously and according to unnamed sources by The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News, The New York Times and Recode.net.

An announcement expected Wednesday morning follows a reluctant conclusion that federal regulators won’t approve a merger between the nation’s No. 3 and No. 4 wireless phone companies.

Just as well; I'm happy nobody's screwing up T-Mobile's no-contract program.

I have ever dealt with. Terrible customer service. Billing errors. We switched to t-mobile about 8 years ago and have been very happy with them.

ATT is awful too. I can't wait until I never have to use them again. At the moment they monopolize the land lines.

I like that they have continued to honor a long-extinct plan I signed up for in 2006. Coverage is not as omnipresent as Verizon's but I still rate it very good.

Meanwhile, unlimited data means never thinking twice about whether or not to stream something.

I added 2 phones to our plan for our kids. The first bill after was incredibly high. I looked into it and they had added 3 new lines instead of 2. They continued to charge me for that extra line for months even though it was not being used, not wanted, and never ordered in the first place. They offered to drop the line if I paid $250.00 for early disconnect!

Every single month they shut my service off. Every single month we went through the same duscussion to turn it back on. And every single customer service person was insulting. In the end I was overcharged $1,000.00 for the extra Phantom line.

They put electronics in theft-resistant blister packs and outsource everything else to UPS... what does he know?
