Wife Of Man Who Filmed NYPD Chokehold Arrested

Source: HuffPo

Posted: 08/06/2014 11:59 am EDT Updated: 3 hours ago

The wife of the man who recorded video of New York Police Department officers performing a fatal chokehold has been arrested on assault charges.

Chrissie Ortiz, 30, allegedly struck a woman outside a Staten Island grocery in New York Tuesday after the two got into an argument. She faces a misdemeanor assault charge, the Staten Island Advance reports.

Ortiz's arrest comes just days after her husband, 22-year-old Ramsey Orta, was arrested on gun possession charges.

While being taken into custody, Orta told arresting officers, "You're just mad because I filmed your boy."

Can't say we haven't been warned by history.

To save our own lives, we must look the other way.

They mean to appeal to our "inner Any Rands" (assholes).

and send them anonymously to various news outlets from many different origin points. Make it hard for them to get even.

Everyone in this thread is going with retaliation without doing any research or thinking rationally.

Without excusing for a minute what the Police did, it's worth considering that, before all this happened, Orta already had 26 prior convictions, so the notion that AFTER filming the police he'd get into trouble again isn't a big stretch.

Add to that, this has become a huge political issue involving the Mayor, the Commissioner, the Council, Al Sharpton and others. Are you really going to try to retaliate by ginning up an assault charge requiring another civilian to commit perjury, resulting in nothing more than a Desk Appearance Ticket, in that kind of environment?

shoot (or kill) the messenger-treat the bearer of bad news as if they were to blame for it.

Some states-Corps just recently made it a crime to video crimes.
