'Porch Shooter' Theodore Wafer Found Guilty of Murder
Source: ABC News
A Detroit jury ruled today that Theodore Wafer was guilty of murder in the shooting death of unarmed teenager Renisha McBride on his porch.
The jury, which consisted of seven men and five women, began its deliberations on Wednesday after nine days of testimony. The verdict came on the second day of deliberations.
Wafer, 55, was charged with second degree murder and manslaughter for shooting and killing McBride, 19, last November when the teenager showed up inebriated on his porch at 4:40 a.m. The jury found him guilty of second degree murder.
He will be sentenced Aug. 21 and could face a maximum of life in prison with parole.

(33,282 posts)A jury of 7 men and 5 women convicted the 55-year-old Dearborn Heights man.
Wafer was charged with second-degree murder, but the jury will be able to consider the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter. He is also charged with manslaughter and felony firearm.
The defense has argued that Wafer's actions were in self-defense, saying he was scared after hearing banging on his side and front doors. The prosecution has said Wafer shot McBride through a locked screen door. They said Wafer came to the door with a loaded shotgun, released the safety, raised it at her, pulled the trigger and "blew her face off."

(90,018 posts)Happy-stunned. But stunned nonetheless. I was worried that it'd go the other way, AGAIN, and all we'd have is no justice and a gullible jury buying into the "I was scared!" shit. Even though this guy had about three or four different and conflicting excuses for what happened. I'm glad the prosecution seized upon that. Okay, pal, were you scared and you shot, or you were angry and you shot, or the gun just discharged youdontknowwhy, or what? Which one was it? And since when do you just take the law into your own hands and shoot in a situation where you really oughta be calling 911 and leaving it to the professionals to handle?
I hope they throw the book at him, sentencing-wise.

Do you mean the one that was probably not allowed to be posted in GD or LBN because it involved a gun? (oh my!) Strange rule.
Finally, some sanity! Great verdict.

(23,715 posts)this guy was in his own home, and answered his own door that McBride had approached was banging on, and he was found guilty.
Zimmerman walked down a public sidewalk to catch up to Trayvon, after HE WAS TOLD NOT TO by police, got in Trayvon's face which made the kid fear for his own safety and attack Zimmerman (if you believe that's what happened).... and Zimmerman STILL got off on the "defending himself" BS.

(71,542 posts)I thank God this murderous man is going to jail most likely for life...he deserve it. I have always been convinced (he opened the door) he was not fearful at all but wanted like all ammosexual rightwingers to kill a person...and here was his chance. This girl's life mattered. Here in Ohio where I live a policeman ran over a teen...he was most likely inebriated but no tests were run...the cop was never charged and during the civil suit...the girl was put on trial...they found a trace amount of drugs in her system...he is still a cop and works at the High School. I never speak to him nor look at him...and I feel he got away with murder...glad this monster did not.
