Home Depot Looking Into Credit Card Hack

Source: NBC

Home Depot may be the latest victim of a giant credit card hack.

The retail and home improvement giant admits this morning that it's looking into a possible breach, first noticed by banks.

From the company: "Protecting our customers' information is something we take extremely seriously, and we are aggressively gathering facts at this point while working to protect customers"

Thoughts instantly turn to the credot card breach that hit Target stores early this year, affecting as many as 100 million customers. In this case, it's not yet known which credit cards may have been compromised, or what specific data might have been taken.

Home Depot Probing 'Unusual Activity' After Reports of Data Breach

Home Depot may be the latest retailer to have suffered a massive credit card breach, the company confirmed on Tuesday, after Krebs on Security reported that a large cache of stolen data had appeared on black market sites. Home Depot is working with investigators to flesh out the origin of "unusual activity," a spokeswoman told CNBC in a statement. "Protecting our customers' information is something we take extremely seriously, and we are aggressively gathering facts at this point while working to protect customers," she added, but declined to provide further information. Krebs reported that the breach bore hallmarks of the same groups that have hit Target and P.F. Chang's, among other vendors. Krebs says the breach may be extended across all of Home Depot's U.S. stores.

Sorry about the cap-lock...

"Homeland Despot" I've heard them called.

Too Busy writing campaign checks to the GOP, to notice that their identity and the identity of thousands of their loyal customers, was swiped off their sacred corporate computer system. The CEO probably knows how I feel, when I think about having voted on an electronic voting machine...CHEATED!(No More Bad Chads and Bullsh!t!) I don't think I've ever used a credit card at Home Depot, because I cut up my last credit card about fifteen years ago. I still get calls from the credit card people all the time, wanting to lower "my credit card interest rate." I suspect those callers are the same gang of rogues who victimized all the Home Depot customers, who were hacked.
