Russia Threatens To Release Putin's Disputed Phone Call

Russia raised the stakes Tuesday over a disputed phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and head of the EU Commission president by threatening to go public with the conversation that the Kremlin said misquoted the Russian leader as saying he could be in Kiev within two weeks if he wanted.
Vladimir Chizhov, Russia's ambassador to the European Union, said the Kremlin is prepared to release the full audio and written transcript of the phone call between Putin and EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso,
In a letter to Barroso, Chizhov said that media reports "say you allegedly shared the content of the conversation with some of your EU colleagues, in particular attributing to the Russian president words that were clearly taken out of context."
The Russian president allegedly made the comments during a phone conversation about the Ukraine crisis with Barroso, who reportedly related them to colleagues at last week's European Union summit.

I am for working in good faith through international law and against neocon propaganda and warmongering.

(569 posts)Well put and relevant to the current neocon regime change efforts even after all the 'triumphs' to date.
Never a disaster zone of their creation that's caused them to look back, nevermind have concern for the thousands killed and displaced. That they may carry on to the next designated head to roll is testimony to their barbarism.
Reading the anti-Putin chorus singers here is no more reassuring.
Russia did not create this Ukraine nightmare, an illegal coup d'etat did. Why else do they keep getting drawn into it, except to take 'blame'?

(29,876 posts)Barroso a chance to walk this back. If he doesn't, I fully expect the tape to be released.
I've already suggested the boilerroom response if it is released in reply #8.

(62,270 posts)I can see it being against protocol but I suspect Putin merely implied what was conveyed, and didn't literally say it. So either side would claim what they want.

(7,888 posts)to own the outcome in Ukraine. It's not all about you Tsar Putin or your stated desire, and I quote "to return Russia to its former glory". Isn't it time for the calmer, rational voices in Russia to stand up?

Russia haters do not want evidence, they want speculation, which is why the MH17 evidence is not being released.

If you don't, then you are full of bullshit.

(2,186 posts)I wonder if he said it in the context of being in Kiev in 2 weeks for a peace agreement between Russia, pro-Russia rebels and the Ukrainian govt.

(3,982 posts)discussion to his "moral lapse of protocol" by releasing it. He will be attacked no matter if he is right or wrong.
So better to try first to pressure and embarrass him into saying that the quote that went through the papers was not accurate (Head of the EU commission). Not to mention if he does have to release it he spreads the story out a little longer and it gets more attention.
