Justice Department to Investigate Ferguson, Missouri, Police

Last edited Wed Sep 3, 2014, 09:55 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: NBC

The Justice Department intends to launch a civil rights investigation of the entire Ferguson, Missouri, Police Department, according to administration officials. An announcement of the investigation is planned for Thursday.

With the help of the FBI, the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division has been investigating last month's fatal shooting of an unarmed teenager, Michael Brown, who was wounded several times by a Ferguson police officer. The shooting touched off several days of sometimes violent protest.

But this new investigation would be much broader, looking at the conduct of the entire Ferguson Police Department over the past several years.

The Justice Department will also look at the practices of the county police department, but that will be a more cooperative investigation, an administration official said.

MORE INFO FROM WAPO:

Holder’s decision will represent the Obama administration’s most aggressive step to address the Ferguson shooting, which set off days of often-violent clashes between police and demonstrators in the streets of the St. Louis suburb.

The federal officials said the probe will look not only at Ferguson but also at other police departments in St. Louis County. Some, like Ferguson, are predominantly white departments serving majority-African-American communities, and at least one department invited the Justice Department to look at its practices. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the pending inquiry.

I live in the Twin Cities and I have seen a lot of investigative stops at least coming upon the scene in progress it looked that way. Maybe it is time to police the police. Stop and frisk seems to be way over used.

Everyone that's been paying the least bit of attention to the state of police in this country knows exactly what the problem is. You bring soldiers back over after they serve in warzones, and in their heads, they are still there. It's not "protecting the innocent", they are still fighting the war, but the American public are the enemy.
And when you fill their armories with military style weapons, and their garages with tanks, they are more than happy to keeping fighting that damned war.
That should complete the investigation. I'll only charge half of what you would spend to do the investigation.

So he lived?

Whoever wrote this must really need their job since this is just short of blowing every cop in Ferguson.

This is how you know the economy isn't really recovering.

Any PD with the balls to beat the crap out of someone and then charge them with a crime for bleeding on the cops who beat him needs to be shut down - not reformed, not cleaned up, but fully shut down like the criminal organization it is.

At the very least they should find the 1st two shots that hit Michael Brown were probably warranted, but the last 4 were just plain murder. Police should not intentionally murder someone just because they are angry. I wonder if their investigation will also include the city. There are about 21,000 people in Ferguson & cops issued over 32,000 warrants (fines) mostly for traffic violations. Maybe they need to audit the entire city.

Did you guys see Jon Stewart the other night, when he talked about the little things people of color must endure every day? It was great.
