Nato Summit 2014: Ring of Steel in Cardiff city centre to be taken down over the weekend

The “ring of steel” surrounding Cardiff Castle as part of the security measures for the Nato Summit will be removed by Sunday, the city’s council has said.

Contractors will work 24 hours a day to remove the nine-foot-high fence from around the venue, which was installed last month ahead of a working dinner for world leaders – including Barack Obama – on the first night of the historic summit.

While the structure is removed several roads in the capital will remain closed.

Once contractors have taken the fence down and reopened roads they will then focus on removing the remaining security fencing which snakes through Bute Park and also lines large parts of Cardiff Bay.
