Calling Friday nights damaging weather one of the strongest storms to hit southeast Michigan this year, DTE Energy said 350,000 customers remain without power today.
About 375,000 DTE Energy customers lost electric service Friday night, the company said in a news release late this morning. Winds of 75 m.p.h. hit some areas while winds of 60-70 m.p.h. were found throughout the region.
This is the 10th most impactful storm in the companys 111-year history. DTE has enlisted the help of 600 linemen from utilities in Ohio, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, New York and Tennessee to assist the restoration effort, the release said, noting that wind gusts had downed more than 2,000 power lines.
High winds also knocked over trees and left storm debris in streets and yards throughout metro Detroit.

(4,959 posts)Both our house and our business (several miles apart in SE Michigan) still have power. A couple flickers here at the shop but it never went out. But in both locations, there are people within a stone's throw who are out of power and may not get it back until Monday or even later.
At our house I wouldn't be too worried to lose power - aside from the food in the fridge we can live with candles and lighting the stove with a match for a few days. But our business is pretty new and every day matters, so if we were out of power we'd be crunched... I feel so bad for the people who are really effected by this.
