(Reuters) - Arab foreign ministers meeting in Cairo are set to issue a resolution on Sunday backing Iraqi and U.S. efforts to confront Islamic State insurgents who have overrun large areas of Iraq and Syria and declared a cross-border caliphate, diplomats said.

Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi told the opening session that the rise of the group in Iraq challenged not merely the authority of the state but "its very existence and the existence of other states", and called for a clear and decisive resolution to confront terrorism militarily, politically, economically and culturally.

Several foreign ministers spoke of the gravity of the challenge posed by Islamic State in Iraq as well as the violence that has engulfed Libya and other regions.

An Iraqi diplomatic source said Baghdad had drafted a resolution that would endorse its efforts to confront the militants and condemn Islamic State's actions as war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Arab foreign ministers meeting in Cairo for an Arab League meeting have vowed to take all necessary measures to combat the Islamic State group while agreeing to cooperate with all international and regional efforts.

"What is needed is a clear decision for a comprehensive confrontation, militarily and politically," Arab League chief Nabil el-Araby said on Sunday.

The Arab League also endorsed a UN Security Council resolution passed last month calling on member states to "act to suppress the flow of foreign fighters, financing and other support to Islamist extremist groups in Iraq and Syria".

El-Araby criticised infighting between Arab states which he said had led to inaction by the 22-member League.

A far better "solution" would be for you to stop funding them and drag your lazy-assed partying kids from the glitzy nightclubs they frequent and put them in a military uniform instead. We've already given you all of your war planes, so use them.

they spread Wahhabi Islam which the Sunni dictator states support. See how quick they approved of the western support of the terrorist in Libya. Their goal is to destroy independent secular Arab states and Syria falls squarely in that category

Which the Arab states are good for. There will not be a single member of the Arab state's military on the ground.
