Napa quake: Obama declares major disaster, freeing up aid

Source: SF Chronicle

President Obama declared a major disaster for Napa and Solano counties on Thursday after the magnitude 6.0 earthquake that struck Aug. 24, freeing up emergency federal funding to bolster recovery efforts, the Associated Press reported.

Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency shortly after the quake and sent a letter requesting the declaration on Sept. 2.

Funds are also available for some tribal and local governments and nonprofit groups.

The 1906 earthquake did an estimated $400 million in damage in 1906 dollars.

Just an odd coincident that doesn't mean squat when you consider $5 a week was considered a good wage in 1906
