China Offers Russia `Helping Hand` In Xi, Putin Talks

Source: Agence France-Presse

Last Updated: Friday, September 12, 2014 - 09:19

Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping called for Beijing and Moscow to offer each other a "helping hand" in the face of external challenges, at talks with his counterpart Vladimir Putin in Tajikistan on Thursday, state media reported.

The two leaders met in the Central Asian nation`s capital Dushanbe ahead of a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, a six-nation regional security group that also includes Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

It was the pair`s fourth meeting this year, China`s official Xinhua news agency said.

China and Russia -- at times close allies during the Cold War -- have been forging closer relations through energy deals in the face of spiralling diplomatic challenges.

If you flip over the rock of American foreign policy of the past century, this is what crawls out… invasions … bombings … overthrowing governments … occupations … suppressing movements for social change … assassinating political leaders … perverting elections … manipulating labor unions … manufacturing “news” … death squads … torture … biological warfare … depleted uranium … drug trafficking … mercenaries …

We just had the anniversary of the original 9 11 when the Empire overthrew a Democratically elected President and put a murderous cocaine capo Pinochet to slaughter innocents...

Time to reel in the International Republican Institute and the neoliberals (those who think they can roll over any government , even democratic ones, or conduct any war, without considering the potential consequences.

physical condition of the respective forces. Look at the respective CIC. Look at the respective wishes of the people behind the respective forces. This won't be a Ukraine when the US and Russia meet. This will be Minutemen against Topal M's: 450 ICBMS to 369, if memory serves. Who will be the more reluctant to shoot when the time comes. Also China has some ICBMS now but I don't know how many. All three have defense shields.

will play...there does not have to be a nuclear exchange if the US can "boa constrictor" Russia and China...envelop them with bases .....use entities like ISIS to attack Russia which has Muslim issues....Use Taiwan against China ....if the US creeps close to Russia say Ukraine it can send missiles that will arrive in very short minutes...

It is the sign of American people and allies getting tired of war. GW Bush used and abused all the allies till they were on their last legs. Neither the allies nor the American people have an appetite for yet another war and it is showing.

GW Bush made a colossal mistake by going into Iraq and we'll pay for it for generations.

That's what a lot of people in the West want to believe. It's all about money. Or US power.

Putin said one goal of the Custom Union is to undermine and reduce US power and increase Russian power. For that, he needs to make Russia *the* bridge between east and west, so that both can be subject to the superior Eurasian. Like his philosophy or not, agree with it or not, denying that he's evinced it is foolishness. He said what he wanted, and what he's done is in accordance with what he said. It's about regaining power and his sense of "historical justice." They were wronged by the West. Humiliated. And will rise again.

Some of the increase in Russian power is economic. Some is dominating surrounding regions. For this, he thinks he needs Ukraine and some other areas. Then there's the whole "Russian world" crap thrown into the mix.

China has similar attitudes. It was wronged by the West and oppressed. It had territories that should be China's again. It should dominate surrounding territories.

Irredentism and sphere-of-influence rhetoric (that would be "hegemonic influence&quot are common between the two, along with restoring "historical justice" and compensating for "humiliation."

Oil and markets are the means. Putin's deal with the Russian public was essentially "I'll give you a good economy if you stay out of politics." (Not mine. It's what you sometimes read in the Russian op-ed pages of a more liberal type.) China's is the same. The populace of both empires with a strictly hegemonic cultural/ethnic bias is in rough agreement.

They may eventually decide to divide up things, as Portugal and Spain did, or as Stalin and Hitler did. But in the end, that kind of bargain won't last.

without thinking past the next news cycle. You can blame the childish concept of American Exceptionalism for that.

When Putin showed up they could no longer count on the drunkard Yeltzin to deliver Russia into the arms of US oil companies.

The most dangerous alliance in the world is not Russia and China but the Petro/Military alliance within the US corporate oligarchy.

The neo cons have succeeded, after the fall of the USSR, in ensuring that every gallon of oil and cubic foot of gas from the Ukraine to China will be denominated in Roubles and Yuan not dollars.

Good work. What an awful talent for failure the neo cons have demonstrated.
