The Republican candidate for attorney general tried to intervene on behalf of former Lt. Gov. Lavon Heidemann after his sister sought a protection order.
Exactly what was said is a matter of dispute, but the call from Doug Peterson and a subsequent call by another attorney are examples of how Heidemann tried to end the matter privately before it went to court.
Peterson threatened a defamation lawsuit if the sister proceeded with her request for a protection order against Heidemann, said Steve Mercure, Lois Bohlings attorney.
Mercure, who practices in Tecumseh, Nebraska, said he told Peterson that such threats wouldnt deter his client.
