Obama set to launch October midterm push

Source: The Hill

President Obama will kick off his midterm campaign push in October, according to senior administration officials, with events benefitting individual vulnerable Democratic candidates.

Obama will ramp up his public campaign efforts on behalf of congressional Democrats, but — in a possible acknowledgement of the president's flagging approval ratings — the effort will be less intensive than what President Bush undertook during the 2002 midterm election. That fall, Bush made more than 40 campaign speeches for dozens of congressional candidates.

At the same time, the White House says it feels better about the midterm elections than it did just one month ago.

One senior administration official said there was a clear path for Democrats to hold the Senate, and that the White House was encouraged that every tossup race remains within the margin of error. The official said Republican chances of a pickup in the Michigan open seat race were fading, while vulnerable senators like Mark Begich (D-Alaska) and Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) were maintaining narrow leads. Meanwhile, Democratic nominee Rep. Bruce Braley has bolstered his lead in Iowa.

stress the importance of this Nov election and encourage people to GOTV.

When I say every chance they get - I mean if they are on any of the MSM news shows or local media shows in their state or district - they need to stress the importance of this Nov election and encourage people to GOTV.

I'm not hearing this from any of the Dems right now. We still have a month and a half to get the word out. They need to do this. To tell you the truth I'm very disappointed in them right now that they didn't initiate this on their own.

They shouldn't have to be told. This is a watershed election - it is important to the country that we have a big turnout and we maintain the Senate and take the House.

The Repubs are on the wrong side of just about every issue. I can't figure out why they are so confident that they will take the Senate and maintain the House. They've frosted just about every interest group in this country - except the banksters, the 1%er's and the corporations.

The rest of us outnumber them. We should be able to turn this around - but we need to get the electorate fired up. To to many important issues on the table that could be taken care of if we can GOTV.

That would be the correct correlation: six years into each of their presidencies. Why would they want to use 2002 for Bush? Hmmm.

I would say, "LOOSEN UP!" What do you have to lose? People want real and they can tell when they are seeing it.

I would say the same thing to Hillary.

Sticking by it.

BTW, unnecessary snark. You are the type of person that makes DU unfun.

with some ill-timed jokes after 3 men were decapitated too?

There is a time and place and style to fit the situation. A good public speaker learns not to confuse that time and place.

and joke in a speech dealing with a subject related to 3 people people being beheaded? There is a time for "loosening up" and a time for gravitas, and good public speakers know the difference. Unless I misinterpreted what you meant by "loosen up" and "real".

Disagreements have nothing to do with DU being "fun" or "unfun" and I apologize for any "snark" that you perceived.

He and his team know the risks of a house and senate controlled by the Republicans. We simply cant let it happen.
