Jonathan Dwyer arrested, deactivated

Source: espn

Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer has been deactivated from all team activities following his arrest Wednesday on allegations of aggravated assault.

The arrests stem from two incidents involving a 27-year-old female and an 18-month-old child at Dwyer's home in southeast Phoenix at July 21 at 8 a.m. and July 22 at 4 p.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department. Dwyer, 25, was booked into Maricopa County Jail on Wednesday on one count of aggravated assault causing a fracture, one count of aggravated assault involving a minor, two counts of criminal damage, one count of preventing the use of a phone in an emergency, and assault.

because that would be a tragedy

I bet everyone in the NFL is hating Ray Rice right now, for bringing the issue to the forefront.

And I didn't really expect this from Dwyer, I had thought he was one of the good guys. Shows what I know.

Not really Orwellian. Each team has an active roster of app. 50 players that may suit up for a game, and practice squads that can't due to limits on active team membership. To deactivate a player is to take him off the active roster and place him on the practice squad rather than suspended. This terminology has been around since at least 1973.

Turned off, disassembled, placed in a straw lined box to protect vital moving parts, and put in a big warehouse alongside the Ark of the Covenent (to be looked after by top men), to await the NFL's future decisions.
