How gender mattered in the rise and fall of Debbie Wasserman SchultzThis discussion thread was locked as off-topic by cbayer (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum). Devastating. That's really the only way to describe Politico's piece on DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. (I hereby nominate her for Worst Week in Washington.) (Editor's note: Three words -- Joseph. Robinette. Biden.) Based on interviews with DNC staffers -- both former and current -- the piece described Wasserman Schultz as something of a modern-day Tracy Flick: over-eager, disloyal and not shy about promoting her ambitions. It would be fair to say that she sounds like, well, a lot like other politicians. And this would be accurate. But the wholesale bashing of Wasserman Schultz at every level of the party -- White House, Congress, donors, aides in her own shop -- is especially rough, even given the reality of Beltway politics. She comes across as a woman without a party, holding a job that could be a stepping stone, but now seems more like a trap door. (As Philip Bump notes, it might be a stepping stone no matter how it ends.) This is a public firing, Washington-style. “We say the big ‘D’ is for Democratic,” one member joked to others at the House Democratic retreat on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in February, according to one of the members. “For her, the big ‘D’ is always for Debbie.” Instead, the DNC chairwoman stakes out the president of the United States at the end of photo lines at events and fundraisers. “You need another picture, Debbie?” Obama tends to say, according to people who’ve been there for the encounters. Here's the reality: No matter the outcome for Democrats in November, Wasserman Schultz will likely be shown the door, with another woman to replace her. But, the list of possible replacements is a not-so-long list of two: Stephanie Schriock, who heads the Democratic women's group EMILY's List, and Stephanie Rawlings Blake, the mayor of Baltimore. more at link: Read more: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2014/09/18/how-gender-mattered-in-the-rise-and-fall-of-debbie-wasserman-schultz/?wpisrc=nl-fix&wpmm=1 Florida democrats have been crying out. They were told to shut up. Yet they continue to say, how Florida goes, so goes the country. Her inside history out of Fla, is a sad history. This is the true reason activists won't act anymore. Donors won't open wallets like they used to. African Americans stay home. Research back to 2006, while she was a Florida leader.

1. When she endorsed Republicans over Democrats
And wouldn't support those same Democrats at the national party level, she lost me completely. she's a DINO and an opportunist.

2. Where was Debby when the only person running for GOV, was not allowed to speak!!!
at the statewide democratic event and FUNDRAISER???? THIS time around.
The after effects of that are still in play. And, Senator Bill Nelson carries much of this blame as well. |

17. Here are a couple....
http://miami.cbslocal.com/2013/06/16/richs-snub-worked-in-her-favor/
and.... a write up by Nan Rich herself on her Facebook page.... https://fr-fr.facebook.com/NanRich2014/posts/640535625974913?fref=nf THIS WAS UNCALLED FOR. And now...more are staying home. Yes..under DWS Barak won 08 and 12. But African American's came out for him. In the last midterms...for Alex, they stayed home. In our special election to replace Bill Young, we dems had a candidate in Jessica Erlich who raised over 100K before Sink decided to run. Great more the merrier! But NOOOOOOOO... The party trashed another female, an attorney, who will never run again. Alex Sink got Emily's List to RETRACK their endorsement of Jessica. Now come on.....Why not endorse both? Two great females. So...women are pissed in fla. Then they did this to Nan Rich for governor for Charlie who just became a democrat and continues to suffer hits on past republican policies, and getting a new message out. Not enough money to combat one, and message the other. Get it? All of this going on since 2006, back when Little Debby endorsed a republican over a democrat who was a progressive, who WON A HARD FOUGHT PRIMARY. Some on DU want to call this a "hit piece" because Political and WaPo put it out. But it's the truth. Florida dems HAVE been calling for her removal. Debby Wasserman did not get Barak Obama elected. The African American's in S. Fla who usually stay home, came out to vote for him. That is what the numbers show. They don't lie. Thanks for asking for more info. There is so much here... |

6. Hit piece alert!
She's not without her faults, but consider the source. And the premise -- a man would have acted differently? And the timing -- just before the midterm elections.

8. Absolutely consider its source. Politico was founded by a bunch of reaganites, and they profess
unbias, but since their inception their stories are always slanted against Democrats. Washington Post also isn't what it was, so as far as I am concerned you are right on

7. This doesn't fit the criteria for LBN
It sounds like opinion/analysis. And the author Nia-Malika Henderson is an analyst who regularly appears on MSNBC.
But you knew that, right? ![]() Seems between this and the Heritage Foundation drivel you posted earlier, one wonders. Florida democrats have been crying out. They were told to shut up. Yet they continue to say, how Florida goes, so goes the country. Her inside history out of Fla, is a sad history. This is the true reason activists won't act anymore. This is why Barack Obama lost Florida in 2008 & 2012!! ![]() ![]() |

Is the only focus here on prez races? all complaints come from what are congress does and does not do.

16. "They" stayed home
in 2010 and most other non-Presidential elections. It's a civics problem in this country that has nothing to do with D. W-S. The turnout issue along with the Voter ID fiasco, both in FL and here in PA, was part of why here in PA, we got teabaggers Toomey and Corbutt. But with that latter issue, the AA vote was also not actively courted and few here in SE PA knew who the W PA candidate (Onorato) was.

20. The real hit piece would be the 2013 local elections where FDP chair followed Debby's misleads!
That would be a real bummer for you all to read! Another female attorney, and former council member DISSED!

and I couldn't understand how she became so "important" in the party, except for her "new way" cheering squad.
