Pat Robertson loses it after Air Force nixes God oath for atheists: How can they fly?
David Edwards
18 Sep 2014
TV preacher Pat Robertson lashed out at a Jewish radical on Thursday who he said was responsible for God being removed from the Air Force oath.
The Air Force announced on Thursday that the words so help me God were an optional part of the oath after an atheist airman crossed out the words on his reenlistment paperwork. Military officials had initially refused to accept the paperwork, but Department of Defense General Counsel eventually ruled that the words could be omitted.
Although the American Humanist Association had represented the airman, Robertson on Thursday blamed Military Religious Freedom Foundation President Mikey Weinstein for the movement against religion in the armed services.
Theres a left-wing radical named Mikey Weinstein who has got a group about people against religion or whatever he calls it, and he has just terrorized the armed forces, Robertson opined. You think youre supposed to be tough, youre supposed to defend us, and you got one little Jewish radical who is scaring the pants off of you.
You want these guys flying the airplanes to defend us when you got one little guy terrorizing them? he asked. Thats what it amounts to.

(5,732 posts)and let others worry about theirs. It is called freedom of religion and for some that means freedom from religion.
Plucketeer
(12,882 posts)that Robertson and his followers (and other TRUE +tians as well) have a primary mission from God. That mission is to be witnessing every time they open their mouths to speak. If they ARE NOT actively trying to enlist new souls, they're, in essence, straying - losing sight of the prime directive. It's that same mission that's behind pro life movements. It's not that there aren't already too many unwanted and abused kids - it's simply the redeemed soul potential those newborns afford folks as admission tickets to the supposed Kingdom.

The top of the wing is curved, speeding up the flow of air as it goes over the top. This difference in speed causes lift. This pulls the plane off the ground. God is involved nearly on an advisory basis. Hope this helps.

(20,018 posts)The faster-moving air exerts less downward pressure on the wing.
hueymahl
(2,904 posts)The faster moving air caused by the curvature on top of the wing creates a negative pressure gradient causing lift.

(40,014 posts)airplanes suck. That's how they stay aloft.
Pat Robertson sucks. That's how he grifts money from his moronic followers.
Now if you are flying because you're out there flapping your arms, that's God. But if not, it's science.

(33,688 posts)Gods works in mysterious ways, and atheists and other religions seem able to fly aircraft. Why doesn't God disallow them to lift off?

Revelations about Robertson's war record also dogged his campaign. In his campaign literature Robertson claimed to be a combat veteran of the Korean War. In fact, he served three miles from the front in a headquarters function ferrying codes to Japan and never saw combat.
Former GOP congressman Pete McCloskey of California, who served in the same unit as Robertson, claimed that Robertson had relied on his father's influence to get him out of combat duty. Robertson was so rankled by the charge that he sued McCloskey and Representative Andy Jacobs, an Indiana Democrat who also circulated the charges, for $35 million.
McCloskey insisted that Robertson was on a ship headed for combat until his father used his influence to have him removed. According to McCloskey, Robertson later boasted that he had used his father to "get him out of combat duty."

BTW, allowing gays to marry does not affect straight marriages in any way whatsoever, either.

(135,425 posts)The DoD rules have ALWAYS been clear on this. I've issued the oath with and without the GAWD, and I've also issued the oath with "affirm" for the people who don't like to "swear." This isn't news. The only "news" is that there are fucking IDIOTS in the USAF, apparently!
As for Pat Robertson, they'll fly on the wings that science helped them design....! But how TELLING that he is "Jew blaming" for this incident....so much for his "solidarity with Israel and the Jewish people" bullshit to help himself get all"raptured" or whatever!

(7,536 posts)But I think getting Pat Robertson so upset he "loses it" every day for awhile would be a good thing. I am talking jumping up and down screaming fits. He really needs to scream and holler and spew his particular kind of hateful beliefs so all will know that this is not based on any Christian teachings. If God could strike him dead in the middle of one of them that would only be his choice not mine.

(2,322 posts)...Leave the Air Force right now. There's no way any of those pilots should fly in those planes any longer. It's just not safe and how can they trust the Air Force when it's allowing itself to be terrorized so? (Better to be terrorized by Pat, right?)
Thanks Pat, for pointing that out. I hope all those pilots listen to you and resign immediately and leave behind all kinds of openings for, oh, I dunno, left-wing Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, atheists, etc. Let them try to fly those planes without being forced to make an oath to god! Serve 'em right.

I don't see how not swearing an oath makes it impossible to fly. I don't follow the logic unless it's being forbidden to fly.
