Lafayette judge rules Louisiana same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional
Source: KATC
District Judge Edward Rubin ruled today that the ban on same-sex marriage in Louisiana is unconstitutional.
Rubin's decision in a Lafayette courtroom will not be public record until Tuesday morning, but the state Attorney General's Office confirmed that it has already initiated an appeal.
Rubin's ruling was in response to a lawsuit filed by Angela Marie Costanza and Chasity Shanelle Brewer asking that the state recognize the marriage certificate the couple obtained in California.
The current ban on same-sex marriage in Louisiana does not recognize marriage certificates from other states.
