PARIS, Oct 16 A Ukrainian member of the Femen movement was slapped with over 6,000 (RM25,209) in fines yesterday for impaling a wax statue of Russian President Vladimir Putin with a stake, while bare-breasted, in a Paris museum.
Iana Jdanova, 26, is the first member of the womens movement to be fined in France for their signature topless protests, which they have staged in the Notre Dame cathedral, on top of the Moulin Rouge cabaret and on the Champs Elysees avenue.
In June, the Ukrainian who has been exiled in France for two years, bared her breasts in the presidents hall of the Grevin Waxworks Museum.
With Kill Putin written in red across her chest she repeatedly stabbed the statue with what appeared to be a fake bloodied stake, while yelling Putin dictator!

(62,536 posts)It's obviously an artistic type of hyperbolic performance art, but I wonder how well that'd go over here if it was our President. Obviously you'd get the property destruction charge, but I wonder if it'd be protected as speech.

(113,973 posts)LBN is limited to breaking news of national interest. This story is old, has been repeatedly posted and host consensus is that the sentencing today was not considered to be major "new" news. You should feel free to re-post in GD where you will likely get similar interest, but the SOP for LBN is quite strict as follows:
Post the latest news from reputable mainstream news websites and blogs. Important news of national interest only. No analysis or opinion pieces. No duplicates. News stories must have been published within the last 12 hours. Use the published title of the story as the title of the discussion thread.
