TLC Cancels Here Comes Honey Boo Boo over Mama June’s Child-Molesting Boyfriend

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by hlthe2b (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Mediaite

TLC has officially canceled their ratings hit Here Comes Honey Boo Boo due to rumors that the family’s matriarch, June “Mama June” Summers, was dating a convicted child molester.

Yesterday, TMZ released a photo of Mama June and recently-released convict Mark McDaniel in a hotel room together, along with reports that the two of them had resumed a relationship that began and ended ten years ago, when McDaniel was convicted of aggravated child molestation in — specifically, “forcing oral sex on an 8 year old” relative of Mama June — and sent to serve a ten-year prison sentence in 2004.

Mama June herself was recently divorced from Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson, a former cast member on the show and the biological father of Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thomspon.

TLC Trash Lives Channel - for the reality mess they are putting on TV.

What's amazing is folks not only watch, but follow the lives of so called "Reality Stars" on the Trash Lives Channel. As for Alanna, let's hope this little girl is in the custody of her Father and completely away for good from her sick Mother.

Also, when is the American public going to demand better programming on TV? Never, because it sure seems like it.

Just the most ridiculous, pathetic, repulsive show on TV. Well, besides All-Things-Kartrashian and duck dynasty and the duggars and teen moms and sister wives or whatever-the-fuck it's called. Revolting! WHY we are elevating these low-life losers to the heights of celebrity and showering money and glory and adulation on them - is just beyond me. It reinforces nothing but all the bad stuff. It reinforces the worst in us. Yeah - you can be a total waste and a dumbfuck and they'll give you yer own teevee show and make you rich and famous!!!!

SHEESH... no wonder so many people still vote republi-CON...

It's really amazing to see what's evolved in our pop culture - or maybe DEVOLVED would be a more appropriate word. We used to hold jerk and asshole figures like the primordial teabagger Frank Burns from "M*A*S*H" - as objects of derision. Jokes. Worthy of scorn. CERTAINLY NOT something to be admired or emulated.

And shit - NOW we worship them, hang on their every word, follow them to hell and back, and vote them into high office...

NO WONDER this country is so messed up.

Other shows back then:
Get Smart we laughed at stupidity (and also ridiculed the intelligence community. I don't think you could do that today)
Hogan's Hero's we laughed at stupidity. In that case of the "other".

To be truthful, I cannot watch most of this crap. It is on-the-cheap programming for crackheads.

It is not so much that educational stuff gets dumped because it cannot make money. It is that reality programming is so cheap to make, even with a smaller viewing audience the programming buget is in the black. Also the low start-up cost of a reality program can be considered risk-free. This is why there is so much of it now...

More likely than not, they're victims of exploitation by TLC, a branch of one of the big four media conglomerates.

It's different from the Kardashians, who live of the fame of family members (OJ trial and sports) and who have nothing to offer.

At least the Honey Boo Boo family are representative, somewhat, of people with more humble means.

I've only watched bits, but hating on them really isn't very dignified, IMO, especially on a progressive board.

For pointing out this FACT! The only innocents in this situation is Alanna Thompson and her Father Mike. Mama June, dating a child molester -- who happened to molest a FAMILY MEMBER is unforgivable and should not be held as the DU community who believe this action is wrong (dating a child molester while parenting a young child--Alanna), is throwing the entire family "under the bus".

I only watched the show maybe twice, three times, tops, but one thing that I noticed is that between all the stupidity and yelling and deliberate "precociousness" that they actually DID things together as a family. they laughed a lot and they seemed to like each other.

Apparently the 'deal' with TLC was that they couldn't move from their crappy house and they had to maintain their lifestyle for the program. That didn't prevent them from taking nice vacations.

I feel sorry for that kid--she's been the center of attention for so long, and now her mother has done a very stupid thing indeed. I'll bet her child-molesting "boyfriend" is after the Honey Booboo pot of gold, because the cast members have some healthy bank accounts.

I hope that kid gets some professional counselling--she's probably going to need it as she gets older and people stop recognizing her. And I hope she's with the father--being anywhere near a child molester is Bad News.

55. I'd venture to guess that most exploited people are complicit. Think third world countries.

Small communities that accept "assistance" and end up losing their culture, their agricultural practices, their peace of mind.

We're only human, I don't know what went on in their heads when they signed, but it's likely that they were hoping for an easy and fun payday and are still caught up in it.

I think in a way they're victims, and I don't want to blame the victims (the abuser excluded).

Mostly, though, I'm upset by the mocking of them, on this board, as trash: "take out the trash", for example, perpetuates a very negative and bigoted stereotype (white trash, trailer trash) and ought not be used.

Don't you think?

Was cancelled because a main character exhibited even worse behavior. There is cause for hope. Very small hope, but there is some.

I only caught glimpses of it while flipping channels, but could see that, whoever was behind it, the show was causing great harm to a child. Can you imagine what it would be like to grow up with this show in your background, online forever, for all to see?

I have no problem with shows like Springer or Maury, as long as they stick with adults. If grownups want to humiliate themselves in front of millions of people, I'm all for it. We're not allowed to kill people in the arena anymore, so shows like that are the closest thing we have. But I have a real problem when parents subject their children to it. (I make an exception for the DNA paternity test episodes - the children aren't really paraded around in the same way.) And for all we know, this child's mother was also exploited; when someone is given the opportunity for a whole lot of money, good judgment can be forgotten, especially if one is from a less-than-privileged background.

It's ironic that someone who abused a child killed a show that was, as far as I'm concerned, abusing a child on a weekly basis.

Why, they all seemed so wholesome. Living up to their richly deserved white trash reputation. Next let's all pray that the miserable Duggar clan will be the next pack of freaks to go. These shows are pathetic.

81. Locking....LBN has strict restrictions on what is posted..
Fri Oct 24, 2014, 03:06 PM

Host consensus is that this is not within the SOP for LBN.

Sorry, as I realize there is interest, but you are free to re-post in entertainment, or even, GD, given the popularity of the discussion, but the SOP for LBN restricts what is posted there to important news of national significance and disallows entertainment type postings.

thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
