Idaho’s only black lawmaker gets KKK membership invite
Source: Raw Story
Idahos only African-American lawmaker, who had a cross burned on her lawn at the age of seven, is speaking out after she said she received a hand-written invitation to join the the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.
On Saturday, Democratic state Rep. Cherie Buckner-Webb used her Facebook page to share photos of the KKK application, which asked for $35 and a proclamation that she was a White Christian man or woman.
Check out communiqué from the KKK received this week in the mail, she wrote. Newsletter, Application
Really?
(It) was addressed by hand, the lawmaker noted. Something a little unsettling.

(78,249 posts)it just never occurred to the Klan that an Idaho legislator might be black. (Me either, for that matter.
)
If this is the case, one wonders how many of them will be filled out and returned.

(16,926 posts)In 1965, he sent in an application and $15 in dues and joined the KKK. For one day, he was the official Klan head for the state of Idaho.
That made national news, Buckner-Webb said.
At the time, Bellesen told The Associated Press that he joined the Klan to show it for what it is. He said he opposed any group that preaches violence, but harbored no ill will toward individual members.

(16,926 posts)RawStory conveniently edited out that portion of the original story:
The envelope, hand-addressed to Buckner-Webb, had a return address of Harrison, Ark. Robbs home base but was postmarked in Great Falls, Mont.
