AP Exclusive: Charles Manson gets marriage license

CORCORAN, Calif. (AP) — Mass murderer Charles Manson plans to marry a 26-year-old woman who left her Midwestern home and spent the past nine years trying to help exonerate him.

Afton Elaine Burton, the raven-haired bride-to-be, said she loves the man convicted in the notorious murders of seven people, including pregnant actress Sharon Tate.

No date has been set, but a wedding coordinator has been assigned by the prison to handle the nuptials, and the couple has until early February to get married before they would have to reapply.

The prospective bride and groom have near-matching carvings on their foreheads. Hers is an "X'' and his is an "X'' that was turned into a swastika after he carved it during his trial to show he was "X'ed out of society."

I recently watched a documentary on 'Murder-mobilia' on Netflix.

What you speak of is entirely true.

There is a whole group of individuals who have collections based on serial killed memorabilia and items that this woman could have access to is potentially worth thousands upon thousands of dollars in this market.

They say "everyone's got a hobby..." however this one ranks up there as a truly strange obsession...

California doesn't have a Son of Sam law, but it does have a law permitting victims to establish judgement against people convicted of heinous crimes. Manson has at least one outstanding judgement against him for a half million dollars. Anything he sells gets confiscated and is handed over to his victims to repay the judgments.

His wife will be exempt from that. She can sell Manson memorabilia all day long without fear, because the original judgement didn't include her.

that there are records available only to family members. She thinks he's innocent and wants him to get a new trial. The only way she can get the records is if they marry. I would imagine if she has family they would be mortified at her behavior.

35. Should Not Be Allowed

Prisoners like Charles Manson should not be allowed to get married. They also should not be allowed to have visitors other than their lawyers, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters. In addition, the media should be prevented from taking pictures of them, or interviewing them. Charles Manson has gotten too much attention since being place in prison. Prison is supposed to be both a place of rehabilitation and punishment. Manson does seem to have been rehabilitated and his sentence seems to not been that much of a punishment in that he has gotten so much media attention.
