House GOP File Lawsuit Against Obama
Source: NBC
House Republicans on Friday filed a long-awaited lawsuit against President Barack Obama for his use of executive actions, nearly four months after the GOP authorized the suit in a strict party-line vote.
The lawsuit accuses the president of abusing his executive authority by unilaterally changing how his signature health care law was implemented. The suit is centered on the White House decision to delay the employer mandate of the Affordable Care Act, but it also comes the day after the president took executive action on immigration.
"Time after time, the president has chosen to ignore the will of the American people and re-write federal law on his own without a vote of Congress. That's not the way our system of government was designed to work, House Speaker John Boehner said in a statement. If this president can get away with making his own laws, future presidents will have the ability to as well. The House has an obligation to stand up for the Constitution, and that is exactly why we are pursuing this course of action."
House Republicans authorized a bill approving the legal action in a 225-201 vote in July, with no Democratic support.

(165 posts)They should be sue for collecting a salary and doing nothing. They are a fraud to the tax payers. They were elected to work for the people, instead it vacation and recess most of the year. The GOP is the big FRAUD.
We must wonder about those that elect them. This nation must be full of screwed up people

(5,610 posts)Sadly this is true with parties to some degree. It is another sickening example of our plutocracy.
Their salaries, compared to those of their (supposed) constituents is outrageous.
I do not know any average Americans with "jobs" like theirs. The perks, benefits, vacations, huge bribes (for most) are not even considered as a part of their income.
It is insane that these people are expected to represent us. In the last few decades the window dressing has been stripped,
Americans KNOW the gross truth that is politics and how our Constitution has become "just a damned piece of paper" that has not been a blueprint for America for many years, yet we are still complacent and even act like "that's life."
We have become the "BIZZARO WORLD", yet we do nothing to force change.
I know it will not happen because TPTB will act, unlike us but IF Bernie Sanders becomes our President...We all know (just by looking at his 30+ years of voting for average Americans to be treated fairly) that Bernie is "us." What a game changer he would be.

Yeah, they really want to "work together" and do their job. Bull!
I see a steady string of lawsuits and bad legislation passed, and a record number of vetoes for the next two years.

The only national political leader with any maturity, compassion for the American people, and commonsense, much less brains, would seem to be our Pres.
Oh, there are a few in Congress. My own Sen. Patty Murray, and Jim McDermott, congressman from the west side of the state.
But few and far between!

Things Raygun and BFEE did with not even a whiff of dissent from the party is totally illegal in their eyes if Obama does it. They talk about the budget, but that's just a smoke screen. They totally don't give a damn about the country's economy, do absolutely nothing to help it and everything possible to drive us over a cliff, then preach about fiscal responsibility. Ha! They are the party of fiscal irresponsibility and are totally sickening.
