Singer Joe Cocker has died from an undisclosed illness, his agent, Barrie Marshall, confirmed to BBC News. He was 70.

Then came "The Wonder Years", which had the beautiful intro, searing guitars, and this raspy soulful voice that I fell in love with as an pre-teen. Now, at 35, I've rediscovered much of his back catalog, but to me... This version is THE version. Of course, I didn't discover the Beatles until my teens, I heard his first, and much prefer it.

He will be missed.

A unique style. Years ago a bunch of us had the Woodstock movie on TV, and someone made the comment that she was impressed that "someone with his condition" was willing to get up on stage. The whole room fell out laughing, as someone explained to her that his 'condition' was a combination of drugs and really, really being into the music.
I'll bet he was a great guy to party with.

in 1969 or 1970 with Leon Russell and Van Morrison. He was an amazing showman who lit up the stage.

It was the "Mad Dogs & Englishmen" tour and remains one of my favorite concerts. I did lighting, so most of them were a blur, but this group hadn't been together long enough to lose the air of spontaneity.

He looked like he had some sort of palsy on the stage, but man, could he sell a song!

Rita Coolidge was also with the show, quite a few other people who went on to various stages of success as solo performers.

I had just moved here and was determined to take advantage of all the great new and old music that is always going on in this town.

He still had it, I assure you. Put on a great show. I thoroughly enjoyed it and listen to his music all the time driving around the hill country. Came to appreciate him even more that when I was young.

I have some recordings from my Iphone that I took at that show. I wont post them though, there is way better quality stuff out there already, but they will just be my guilty little pleasure.

64. I saw him in the 70's

At either Memorial Stadium in Austin with ZZ Top (the picture inside the Tres Hombres album) or the Rolling Stones in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The blur together now. He only played 4 or 5 songs of what should have been a 45 minute set. He kept going behind an amp tower to throw up. He was that drunk.

I understand he cleaned up around 1980 and was clean after that.

Had a 69 Fury III, my second car, and it had an in-dash 8-track player. I thought I had arrived. The first two tapes I purchased for it were the Rolling Stones Hot Rocks, and Joe Cocker (self titled album).
