Source: Jackson Clarion-Ledger
Actress Donna Douglas, best known for portraying Elly May Clampett, on the television series "The Beverly Hillbillies", has died, according to reports.
Douglas was born in 1933, in Pride, Louisiana. She still embodied the critter-loving beauty Elly May in a 2009 inteview.
"Elly has always been good for me," says Douglas. "That was a slice out of my life, a very happy slice out of my life."
Douglas returned from California to her native Louisiana a few years before the inteview. She lived just outside Baton Rouge near her only child. . .

(7,570 posts)She played the protagonist in "Eye of the Beholder", although her voice was dubbed. That accent she had on Beverly Hillbillies was no act.
She was a real beauty with impeccable comic timing. She was also, by all accounts, a genuinely nice person. Here's to you, Ms. Douglas. We will miss you.

I'm a dozen years younger, but somehow always thought of her character on the show as about my age.

(16,386 posts)It still cracks me up. And still such an excellent representation and satire of this country's misplaced values. Ask anyone who'd they'd rather live with: The Drysdales or the Clampletts?
Such a sly, clever comedy.
She was quite the innocent beauty on the show, and was a great complement to the other cast characters.
