Baptist leader criticizes Trayvon Martin support

(04-14) 08:55 PDT Nashville, Tenn. (AP) --
The head of the Southern Baptist Convention's public policy arm has condemned the response of many black leaders to the Trayvon Martin case as "shameful."
Some black pastors within the nation's largest Protestant denomination say Richard Land's comments hurt the effort to broaden the faith's appeal beyond its traditional white, Southern base.
Land, who is white, says he stands by his assertion that President Barack Obama, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Rev. Al Sharpton are using the case "to try to gin up the black vote."

This is part of Richard Land's (Southern Baptist leader) long term effort to obscurity for the Southern Baptist Convention.
Also want to point out that Land is essentially saying that three black people are acting in concert to achieve the same things. See the argument goes that black people do one thing and white people do another --everyone acts according to their race.

(23,664 posts)is, why the fuck does any black pastor want to be affiliated with this backward ass church. Far as I can tell, it's a tool for the rich to keep ignorant white people scared of hell so they can more easily be used as cheap labor, cannon fodder, and foot soldiers in the struggle to keep blacks in check.
Of course, that more or less describes any religious denomination. But this one seems particularly egregious.

There ya'll go again, RACE, and who's mentioning it most of the time?
It is shameful of how the Sanford police treated the death of Trayvon Martin, and it appears to me that this pastor supports guns over life as well.

Maybe Trayvon insulted the Gun and it went off.

Those that are predominantly black should create their own association or they need to remove the racist bastard from their leadership.

(7,403 posts)The fact that an indictment was handed down for 2nd degree murder against George Zimmerman for gunning down a black teenager? No, what is shameful is your behavior to not condemn the fact that it took 45 days for an indictment to be handed down and it was shameful to overrule the homicide detective that wanted to book Zimmerman the night of the shooting. What a pitiful group the Southern Baptist Church has become that its spokeman would display such open racism in this day and age.

You can, however, shoot unarmed black people. And beat your wife.

(347 posts)the southern baptist church has ALWAYS been one of the most racist religious institutions in America. Even their interpretation of Scripture is racist and skewed. Jesus must be embarrassed that they call themselves followers of Jesus.
