(CNN) Another of the dogs rescued in 2007 from NFL star Michael Vick's dog-fighting compound has died after spending her final years in an adoptive household in suburban Richmond, Virginia.
Gracie, a black pit bull, died Monday morning, according to Amy McCracken, executive director of the Richmond Animal League.
"This morning, little, old, bow-legged Gracie passed away and got her angel wings. Any words we write here could never begin to express the profound, positive and lasting impact that this little, black pit bull had on so many people who encountered her or heard the story of her suffering and triumph," said a post on the animal's league's "Gracie's Guardians" Facebook page.
"We are and will be forever grateful for this little, broken black dog and everything she personified."
The dog arrived at the Richmond no-kill shelter in 2007 and was quickly adopted by the group's board president, Sharon Cornett, who renamed her Gracie.

(19,564 posts)It's more than she would have ever had if they hadn't busted the dog-fighting ring, and she'd been adopted. A true Vick-tory. RIP Gracie.
Peace to Sharon Cornett. It's people like her who make this world a little bit less dark, and worth living in.

(9,126 posts)That so many people, who are not famous or rich or admired, can try so hard to bring good to the world...well that does make the world worth living in.

(19,564 posts)It's the people who live ordinary lives which they've devoted to doing beautiful work, the very people no one usually notices.
If life were fair, they'd be the ones who were in the news daily and who had millions of people following them on social media. They'd be the celebrities in our lives because of their actions, not because they were born, or later gained things people envy. I guess, in a nutshell, if life were fair we'd be mainly judged by our love, compassion and empathy rather than what others envy us for, in my mind.
Hemingway was, as many of the great authors are, a person who watched and actually saw society for what it truly is.

(9,126 posts)I do think Hemingway was a pretty awful person, but he could write with fire and did say many true things.
And yes, there are many wonderful people who few know. They are the ones doing their best to make the world as beautiful as they can and have my utmost respect.

(9,888 posts)to the hidden post. Dogs chosing glory? Dogs know squat about "glory." That's a manmade issue. A dog would most likely choose to be safe and comfortable and to have an opportunity to do what he does in life. Fighting is a fear response.

(29,322 posts)Pit bull is an umbrella term for several Molassar type of breeds.
I used to own an American Pit Bull Terrier she had no interest in murdering other dogs. In fact the older, larger Gordon Setter was the one who didn't like her.
The APBT was bred for hunting and baiting large animals such as bulls & bears.

(22,651 posts)a "professional dog fighters bloodline" of the most vicious, tenacious, pitbulls...are in the end another domestic dog, a breed that can make it as a beloved pet.
I wonder if Vic ever was made to turn-in his contacts? I don't think he ever did. The wealthy of the dog fighters, people with $20,000 dogs, semi-trailer with dog fights inside with streaming videos of the fights to all their other wealthy buddies.
The violence still goes on in all the neighborhoods across America, kids and youth with a 20 dollar puppy and dreams of a $100 win in the next fight in some vacant house.
