Four people were shot and another was punched in the face Friday afternoon during an attempted robbery of a Shawnee gun store, police said.
The gunfight broke out after four robbers entered Shes A Pistol, at 57th Street and Nieman Road, about 2:10 p.m.
One robber struck the stores female co-owner in the face, police said. The shooting started after that. Police didnt know who fired first or how the gun battle unfolded, but it left the other co-owner and two robbers with critical gunshot wounds. A fourth person had less-serious gunshot injuries.
Two of the robbers fled the store, shedding some of their clothing as they ran, police said. They tried to get inside a nearby home and ended up hiding in the screened-in porch. The resident, who had heard the gunfire, already had dialed 911. ... Police arrested all four alleged robbers.

Gee, holding up a gun store seemed like such a good idea at the time. I mean, what could go wrong?
I read years ago about someone who held up a runners' equipment shop (you know: running shoes, shorts) and tried to escape on foot. The owner simply locked up the shop and took off after him. The robber did not get away.

(14,449 posts)I shutter to think how much worse it would have been for the owners had they not been able to protect themselves. Families planning funerals for sure.

I still don't care much for guns, and wish
our country wasn't as 'armed to the teeth'
as it is.

(9,951 posts)And it sounds like you're blaming the owners because of their location.
Dont call me Shirley
(10,998 posts)And yes, the owners could have put their gun shop in a less residential area of Shawnee. As for being robbed, they would have been less likely to be robbed in a more trafficked area.

(9,951 posts)Every gun store I've ever been in, the personnel are armed. What the hell were these guys thinking about?

(12,958 posts)...the presence of guns deters crime! If everyone was armed, crime wouldn't happen! An armed society is a polite society! What about all that rot?
