Fox News goes full Fox News in its contract dispute with Dish Network

Megyn Kelly on new Fox News Channel show "The Kelly File"

Since shortly before Christmas, Fox News Channel has not been available on Dish Network. In a new ad released on Saturday, the network levels a charge clearly meant to resonate with its audience: Dish is "censoring your news."

Fox enlisted its most popular evening stars in its new push against Dish, which went live over the weekend.

The spot, which ran during NFL playoff games according to CNN, points viewers to KeepFoxNews.com at which they are encouraged to enter a ZIP code and find a replacement television provider. (The site also features a row of Fox's popular news shows, with a forlorn "And you have also lost" prefacing the substantially-less-popular Fox Business network.)

In its own standalone site, Dish claims that it "got close to having a new agreement to carry FOX News," when negotiations stalled. "When FOX refused to extend the contract," it says, "our only option was to stop carrying FOX News." That assessment is shared by most independent accounts of the debate: Fox is off the air on Dish because the two companies couldn't reach an agreement on a new contract. In December, Dish told the Wall Street Journal that Fox was trying to use the expiration of the Fox News contract to increase fees for other networks. At that point, Fox said that Dish "did not want to accept terms and commitments that have become customary in a Fox News renewal." This isn't the first time the two companies have been at odds. Several years ago, last minute negotiations managed to keep several other Fox stations on Dish.

I work for a cable company/ISP and we go through this shit every 6 months or so. The networks raise rates because viewership is down and ad rates are dropping, then expect us to eat their costs. Of course if we agree and raise our rates, then the customers get hit.
In one instance we requested dropping a 1/2 dozen stations with little to no viewership in order to take a smaller raise in the rate, they refused - insisting we needed to take the junk stations if we wanted the one that was popular (AMC, I believe it was).
THAT'S why customers can't get a'la carte programming - the companies don't want to lose ad sales for stations with no viewership.

with the ever-escalating satellite bill, it pisses me that I have to have hundreds of channels to get the 8 or 10 I might watch. I finally got some high-speed internet service and it's not cheap either, BUT...... It seems it's now possible to get what we WANT via the net so we can tell DirecTV to STUFF IT! I just got my first Roku device today and if it proves capable, I'll be dumping DirecTV.

I know I can block it and I know that I can just NEVER go to channel 205. But sometimes I am weak...

I sleep better at night these days, knowing I can't even sneak a peak at what BS they are pushing...

But, with that said, I WAS at the gym today and could not help myself and have a brief look at "it":

So PBO apparently ruined everything by not being in Paris yesterday. Interestingly, this story was bracketed by a story about how Paris is still not safe because a "sleeper cell" has been activated and there are 6 terrorists on the loose there. But safe enough for the POTUS to go?

Bibi or whatever his name went, he wasn't "too scared" to go...

Still dicks over there.

Glad I have DISH.

Dish was one of the first to air The Blaze. Direct TV is generally a jerk so unless you hate your neighbor avoid that one.

Yup, just checked my calendar. Not April 1st. Not choking on any porridge either. Whoever thinks that Dish is censoring their news are complete idiots. It's the usual TV carriage contract negotiation breakdown. That's why for a few days a year or so ago we had a PA NBC station on cable here instead of our local NBC affiliate.

I was surprised when I saw the commercial with Bill-o "The Clown" and Megyn "I Know I'm HOT" Kelly making the case that Dish was not
up and up in their negotiating with Fox. That's a bunch of BULL!! Fox tried to get extra bucks from Dish by charging them for stations that were already under contract. So, I hope Dish DROPS FOX and puts some different programming on. I hope also they find a different replacement for Fox other than the BLAZE, Glen Beck's hideous attempt at giving the people NEWS... His show along with Pat and Stu makes me SICK!!! I wrote Dish with a comment on how to solve the problem... Just charge people who want to watch Fox "So-called" News a premium price like they do for HBO, Cinemax etc.. Let's see then how Fox holds on to the title of UNFAIR and UNBALANCED and keeps their high ratings...

how miserable they are when they watch Fox news. Going from so much noise to a calm might just open some eyes to how watching Fox affects their mood and attitude. As well, people who watch it only occasionally may end up going elsewhere, making a comparison and end up seeing the light.

20. Fox once PAID cable companies to distribute their channel
Tue Jan 13, 2015, 03:08 PM
Jan 2015
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_News_Channel#Early_years

"To accelerate its adoption by cable providers, Fox News paid systems up to $11 per subscriber to distribute the channel. This contrasted with the normal practice, in which cable operators paid stations carriage fees for programming."

---
Also note that Fox, not DISH, removed the channels. They could have kept them on the air while they negotiated.

Second, Fox also placed an ad in the Denver Post making the claim that Dish is censoring Fox. What a load of bull! In the past, when Dish had problems with negotiations, the cable channels never resorted to such low tactics.

I sure hate to end up paying more for channels that I never watch.
