Ex-N.Y. governor Pataki ‘seriously considering’ presidential run
Source: Boston Globe
Former New York governor George Pataki wrapped up two days of meetings with New Hampshire Republican activists on Monday and said he was encouraged by what he heard.
In an interview Pataki said he was seriously considering a run for president, but he has not set a timetable on when he will make a decision.
In the meetings, he said, his pitch was that he successfully ran one of the largest and most complicated governments in the country and in a blue state.
How that makes Pataki stand out in what could be an extremely crowded field of Republican presidential candidates is another question.

I know everyone is chomping at the bit for a Cruz or Paul candidacy (easy pickings) - but the fact that Romney might be throwing his hat in the ring tells me their candidate is being 'selected' and they are picking the palatable.
Would be a huge contrast between Santorum/Cruz and Pataki in a debate - especially because of his dry acerbic wit and sarcasm.

So, when do you think Rick Santorum will announce?

(45,251 posts)Seems as though at least one segment of Republican big money thinks the best shot the Republicans have at the Presidency is a former Governor of a Northeastern blue state. Or at least think having one in the mix would be a good thing for the Republican Party.
Except for the coast, that would be somewhat like the Reagan formula, but without the bit about the lovable Gipper whom GE brought into your family's living room every week--a former Governor of a state that usually goes blue in modern Presidential elections. And, during the 2008 primaries, when I was posting on a political board that welcomed posters of every persuasion, the Repubicans did push two things that supposedly qualified people to be President, namely, military experience and/or serving as Governor.
Governors are not interchangeable. Neither are elections.
