Rick Perry loses second request to dismiss case against him
Source: Austin American-Statesman
A judge denied a second and more substantial request Tuesday by former Gov. Rick Perry to dismiss the indictment against him prior to trial, likely extending his criminal case for the next several months as Perry continues mounting a possible presidential campaign.
The ruling by Judge Bert Richardson, a San Antonio Republican, comes five months after Perrys attorneys filed the writ of habeas corpus, a sign of the slow speed at which the case is churning through the criminal justice system. Perrys attorneys could now appeal Tuesdays ruling to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, a process that could take several months and stall possible resolution of the case.
A Travis County grand jury Aug. 15 indicted the former governor on charges of abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public official two felonies arising from his June 2013 demand to District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg to resign or lose a two-year, $7.5 million allocation to the states Public Integrity Unit after her DWI conviction.
Lehmberg did not resign, and Perry vetoed the money.

(3,544 posts)Did anyone see him at the recent GOP meeting? I think it was on the Daily Show. He was out of his mind. Reminded me of Howard Dean, when he was eliminated from the race, due to his rants. He was among the long list of crazies. Sara Palin was definitely one on that list. And now he wants to make a run for president? OMG. Wasn't the last time embarrassing enough? Nope. Let's do it again. And now he's deliberately slowing up his prosecution? Why? Why not get it out of the way? This isn't going to go away.
What the hell is wrong with this guy?
I do not understand what he is doing, or why. It really don't matter. It will be, however, nice to see him in orange. Should go good with that Texas tan.
