A University of Nebraska Medical Center dean is headed to Sierra Leone to help coordinate the health care response to the Ebola outbreak there.
Dr. Ali Khan, dean of UNMCs College of Public Health, flew to Geneva on Tuesday to meet with officials at the World Health Organizations headquarters. He then will continue to the West African nation, which has been hit hard by the often-deadly disease.
So far, about 10,500 Ebola cases have been reported in Sierra Leone, with 3,200 deaths.
Khan, 51, a former disease detective and administrator with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is expected to be in the country for four to six weeks.
